The whole throwing the ball back thing is as stupid as bringing a beach ball.

(68,918 posts)That's something we don't see too often. Horrible thing to do. The look on her face. That fan should be ejected.

(68,918 posts)The reason I find the throwing it back stupid is because true fans would look for a little girl or guy in the seats to give it to. Make their day.

(36,478 posts)Jonny Gomes hadn't even tagged home plate when the entire bench was already on the field, halfway to second base. Jonny was late to the party.

(1,991 posts)But the Red Sox knew that something special had just happened and they were celebrating. It looks like Jonny Gomes didn't even know what had just happened.

(40,416 posts)My memories of Detroit on the edge after 1967 are still vivid. The 1968 World Series is unforgettable. Detroit Tigers came through then, to unite a city.
The gods of baseball may do so again this year. One can only hope, because hope is about all my home town has left.
Too bad the Tigers don't have Mickey Stanley, Al Kaline, Bill Freehan, Norm Cash, and Mickey "fucking" Lolich (who legend has it hid his grip on the ball behind his beer belly and still won three of the four World Series games against the Cardinals.)
Detroiters need to be dancing in the streets again, as they did that autumn day a little over a year after there were so many flames.
May the best team win, but god knows that my dear Motor City needs hope now. Like it needed it that autumn of 1968.
