(32,086 posts)Turns out they were worse than was originally reported. He was apparently on the verge of a massive heart attack. There was a thread about it here earlier in the week.

(14,923 posts)Former Vice President Dick Cheney was so close to death in 2010 that he said farewell to his family members and instructed them to have his body cremated and the ashes returned to Wyoming, he writes in a new book on his long battle with heart disease.
Mr. Cheney ultimately survived the emergency surgery that night and went on to have a heart transplant at age 71 that has left him re-energized five years after leaving office. But for the first time, he describes a 35-year medical struggle that he kept generally private in vivid personal detail.

<snip>
Former Vice President Dick Cheneys heart problems havent been been a secret, but on Wednesday, his daughter revealed that, in 2010, he was very near death.
POLITICO reported that she was referring to when his recurring heart problems required a medical procedure that prolonged his life for just 18 months.
Per their report:
Speaking at POLITICOs Playbook Breakfast with Mike Allen, the younger Cheney said that the 2010 procedure kept her father alive until March when he underwent a heart transplant that has been miraculous in allowing him to return to normal life.
I think, for us, as a family, the incredible lesson and the gratitude we feel to the donor family we dont know the donor family there really are not words to describe that gift, what that means, she said. Its the gift of life.

(62,325 posts)agree, the world would have been a far, far better place without him, and hundreds of thousands of innocent people would be alive today. The only good thing is that maybe, one day, as other countries have done fifty years later, he may have to answer for his war crimes.
