(62,325 posts)to point out strongly the lies and deceptions of the radicals, the Corporatists, the corrupt, in Congress. We so need more like him. But there seems to be some resistance to this kind of Democrat among the leadership in the party for some reason. Which is all the more reason why I respect him. He was targeted during the 2010 election by the Far Right/Koch Bros contingency with millions of dollars. I don't recall the party coming to his aid. But, he bounced right back, on his own it seems and that gives me hope that people with the kind of spirit he has CAN do it without the Corporate influences so many of them now rely on.
ReRe
(10,597 posts)... that's what their problem is. They go along to get along. They are afraid to rock the boat. Money, Money, Money, Money. That's why this country is in the shape it is. With Democrats like them and a bought and paid for coroporate news media....well, here we are. I just am very very thankful for Alan Grayson, even though he is not my Representative. He is a true Democratic voice out there.

(276 posts)on the house floor to the end it is amazing what he is trying to do. As he was trying to invoke a rule that allows members the privilege to bring up a bill if the house is deadlocked, as they were. However the rules had been changed as we now know Before the shutdown started. another words they planned it! and so he was not able to bring up the clean CR from the senate. Of course Loose Dog Poop would be problematic!

(492 posts)And I agree: Grayson is brilliant at shoving it right back at the bad guys (yes, the GOP = "bad guys" . We need more like him in the House and Senate, and more voters who will get out in 2014 to vote for more like him.

As quoted in My Fellow Americans : The Most Important Speeches of America's Presidents (2003) by Michael Waldman, p. 137
I also like this one. It sums up the idea behind liberalism quite nicely:
Harry Truman in Detroit (14 May 1950), as recorded in Good Old Harry.

(5,214 posts)Some quotes of Alan's from the speech;
"...a crisis from one of the most powerful nations on Earth and by the way THAT'S STILL US."
A newspaper (I didn't catch which one) ran a poll in which it asked which do you have a higher opinion of;
Congress 32% Witches 45%
Congress 31% Hemorrhoids 53%
Congress 40% Dog Poop 47%
Congress 41% Toe Nail Fungus 44%
Congress 36% Potholes 47%
Congress 37% Zombies 43%
I think the last should have approached 100%, for zombies (but one could say a lot of Congress Critters may be considered in this category.
The Chair was occupied by Steve Womack, a SC Critter who was lost by Alan's repeated questions as to why he was continually challenged by, well I sort of got lost during all this back and forth, but it is very entertaining to see Alan at his best(?).
While the video is 14 minutes, Alan's time is about half that.

(22,057 posts)Al Gore still has supporters here and, after 13 years, he's made it very clear he isn't running again. I didn't intentionally leave off Howard Dean either even though he's just as unlikely to run. That would make an interesting poll-who would you vote for as president if you could have anyone regardless of their viability or interest.

(43,182 posts)Here in Florida, we get enough grief about our disproportionately uber-red legislature and governor. So it's refreshing to know there is at least one dyed in the wool liberal in our Congressional delegation.
People liked to compare him with Allen West, categorizing them both as partisan bomb throwers. However, the undeniable difference between the two: Grayson, unlike West, fact checks before opening his mouth.

(62,325 posts)over the past decade. He is fearless for one thing, he is INDEPENDENT and NEVER backs down or compromises with Republicans when they are wrong. He is relentless when he believes in something, and there is nothing wishy washy about him when he has something to say. THAT is what need for leadership, enough of the compromising, 'let's all get along' and 'the moral equivalency vagueness' we hear from the current leadership.
Grayson calls out those who are responsible, he never tries to tie Dems to Repubs with the abhorrent 'both sides do it' lie.
He would be a Democratic Teddy Roosevelt type of president. Gruff with those who deserve it, funny, informed, and FIRM.
Now that I think of it, I am going to root for him to run. I know the DLC wing of the party won't want him to run, which makes him all the more desirable as far as I am concerned.

We really should send someone like Grayson or Warren (there may be others) up against the DLC types in the POTUS Dem primary. The party needs to have a discussion about what it stands for. I think once the people start hearing the truth, the snowball will start rolling downhill.
