"Ted Cruz, well, he proved he has a great fundraising operation," Reid said. "But you don't have to have Harry Reid criticizing him. Republicans criticized him. What do you think that vote was last night from Republicans? That was a message to Ted Cruz: 'What the hell are you doing?'
He is a laughing stock to everybody but him. What has he accomplished other than raising some money for president? And if this man can get the nomination to be the Republican nominee for president, I pity the Republican Party.
"Ted Cruz is smart," Reid added. "He has always been able to talk down to people. He is now in the Senate. People are as smart as he is. He can't talk down to anyone anymore. But he has still not accepted that in his own head. He still thinks he's smarter than everybody else. He might be able to work a calculus problem better than I can. But he can't legislate better than I can."

The A.C.A. just went into effect what damage is he talking about?

(338 posts)In politics and in the legal field I'm always amazed at the discourse between adversaries. You will hear "My learned and distinguished colleague" or "My friend across the aisle" all that pretense is dropped when it comes to Ted Cruz. He shows no respect for decorum even though he graduated from Harvard Law and went to Princeton. Rude and crass is his game as the Washington bully. If he wants a street fight I put my money on Harry Reid. If he wants an intellectual fight I put my money on Pelosi, Reid, Barak Obama and Senator Schumer.
Give them Hell Senator Reid.
Also, Cruz will be on the 2016 presidential ballot, as a Republican or as a 3rd candidate, I am betting on that.

(23,973 posts)He saw that Cain, Bachmann, Palin, Gingrich, Santorum all personally cleaned up and made millions off of their rube supporters, even though none ever had any real chance of getting the nomination.
These people do not really give a shit if they ever get elected anymore, they see running for the Republican presidential nomination as strictly a money-making scheme for them.
Cruz is all about getting himself wealthy. He says things that he knows will rile up the ignorati that dwell in the dark corners of his political party, and who then shower money on the loudest mouth.
Cruz is running a Palinesque con game. See how quickly Palin recognized glomming onto Cruz as her ticket to another shot at the Big Con.
Cruz/Palin, third party. Millions of dollars to be made.

(2,957 posts)I really like it when high profile Dem leaders really call out the crackpots on the other side with frank language.
In the past, this was not done that often, because you really had to portray some kindness and unity among everyone in congress - regardless of party. It was just part of the protocol. ("I strongly disagree with my colleague, the honorable gentleman from...".)
But, in today's environment the Republicans have gone so far off the rails and have elected such extreme, anti-government, anti-American candidates into office, that it's finally time for the gloves to come off.
The Dems should be hammering harder than ever, right on through the 2016 election. Reason: we need at least another 6-8 years to repair the Supreme Court. We need to replace our aging libs with young libs, and when Scalia and Thomas have their debilitating heart attacks we need to swap them out with justices who are more sympathetic to the people and the rule of law and less sympathetic to the Tea Party.
