A good letter to the editor from a friend in Wisconsin ... Wisconsin State Journal

This is written by a good friend who runs a great business called "The Prairie Nursery."

*********

I have watched Congress in disbelief over the past few weeks as our so-called public servants pushed us to the brink of insolvency.

Of particular concern was the behavior of tea party extremists, and the failure of the congressional Republican leadership to rein in these economic terrorists.

There are issues with the Affordable Care Act that will require revision. However, for a minority of extremists to hold the government hostage to “prove” their conservative bona fides was irresponsible.

Like it or not, Obamacare was passed by Congress, upheld by a conservative-leaning Supreme Court, and ratified by the people with the re-election of Barack Obama. Meanwhile, the Republican-controlled House voted more than 40 times to defund it, knowing that it would not pass the Senate nor be signed by the president.

The actions of the tea party to shut down the government and force potential financial Armageddon on America was a traitorous act. Yet they enshrine their intractability as “patriotism.”

I have owned and operated a small business for 31 years. I am a member of a demographic the Republican Party depends on. After the party's recent shenanigans, I doubt I will vote for a Republican again for a long time.
