So what happens now? This is scary stuff.

That's what I keep asking myself.

Can the GOP divest itself of the Tea Party? Looks to me like they are still hanging on by their toenails. But I don't think they have any intention of retreating.

What happens if the GOP splits?

And How do we stop them?

This whole thing just seems so insane to me.

And why is Sarah Palin back in the picture. I keep hoping the wolves will get her.

Look if the GOP splits into two parties (and if both parties end up being viable), then that's good for us. The Conservative vote is permanently split

If they end up splitting, but the "mainstream" Republican party isn't viable, than "mainstream" Republicans will either go to the new Tea Party or come to the Democratic Party. If they come to the Democratic Party that will strengthen the DLC/Blue Dog wing of our party. Not great.

If they end up splitting but the Tea Party Republican party isn't viable, than they will mostly drift back into the Republican party - for a while the Republican party will be significantly weakened, a net win for us. But, and this is a big but, a percentage of those Tea Partiers will be pretty angry and may take unwise drastic actions.

were so split.

One commentator that I listened to said that the Dems are really hanging together right now and that's a very good thing. The GOP is now the split party and they have really been weakened by all this stuff. But I can't feel it. It still feels like the Tea Party is still hanging together and my become even more insane.

This stuff scares the crap out of me.

So do we just start the Civil War all over again?
