Utah rock vandals 'reprehensible," say Boy Scouts officials (fucking assholes!!!)

The Boy Scouts of America blasted two Utah leaders who gleefully toppled a boulder from a Jurassic-era rock formation in a state park and said they could face punishment by the organization, in addition to possible criminal charges.

“We are shocked and disappointed by this reprehensible behavior," Deron Smith, a spokesman for the venerable scouting group, said in a statement on Friday as police and prosecutors investigated the incident.

Smith said the 3.7 million children and adults who participate in scouting are supposed to adhere to the principle of "Leave No Trace" when exploring the great outdoors.

"The isolated actions of these individuals are absolutely counter to our beliefs and what we teach," Smith said. "We are reviewing this matter and will take appropriate action.”

Go see it before your idiotic fellow Americans destroy so much of it that the Utah State Parks has to restrict visitors to boardwalks like at Yellowstone.

I dont believe these guys were on an official boy scout trip.Maybe I am wrong. My time in the boy scouts was all about conservation and getting close to nature not destroying it.

The scouts have issues to be sure but being destructive to nature was never one of their intentions when i was involved with them.

By the boy scouts?

I mean why not put, these employees of the acme company or some such in the story.

Just strikes me as odd that the boy scouts were singled out as their affiliate if they weren't on a boy scout function.

I would hope the boy scouts have them removed after hearing of this, as I am sure they will. It just seems odd.

those men *should* know better from their scout experience...It's just a notch or two down from some park ranger himself pulling this shit...

It's not like they were completely ignorant, drunken louts who'd never seen the park before...

As it stands, these nitwits are in leadership positions in the BSA and that makes it relevant. It appears that the BSA is investigating this and one would hope that they take appropriate action.

Personally I don't see this as a slam against the BSA in any way, rather it's these men who have tarnished the image of the BSA and should lose their affiliation, along with some civil penalties.

From the article in the OP link: "Taylor and Hall, who were on a trip to Goblin Valley State Park with eight Boy Scouts, recorded the moment they dislodged the rock from the spot it had been perched for 170 million years."

IMO, these idiots are on par with the woman that "restored" the antique painting in the church (http://abcnews.go.com/blogs/headlines/2012/08/elderly-woman-ruins-19th-century-fresco-in-restoration-attempt/). They have no clue as to the proper way to deal with an irreplaceable item and are too stupid or arrogant to contact the authorities to let them take care of a perceived problem.

I hadn't read the article only watched the video and they didnt look like they were on a scouting trip. There were no kids in the video that I saw and they weren't wearing anything indicating they were scouts.

I texted the link to a friend who's a scoutmaster not terribly far from there at 6am this morning, and he said that the local Boy Scout crowd was already aware and universally horrified.

They should be removed from their leadership positions and banned forever from Scouting. Then, they should be prosecuted and fined very, very heavily. Large enough fines to really hurt.

Shitheads. Republicans, too, no doubt.

Two rangers were behind me and got out and gave me a lecture...

Nothing is to leave the national park. Nothing!!!

These clowns who did this vandalism should spend time in jail and pay a stiff fine.

What was that, Star Trek VI I think? A bunch of other movies were filmed there as well. It's worth a stop if you're doing the Utah National Parks thing.
