(2,201 posts)There actually was a time when the left and right, for the most part, only disagreed about policy. Each side evaluated the facts, and then argued about what the facts meant, and what actions we should take because of the facts at hand.
These days the right wing either fails to, or refuses to, acknowledge facts. They work backwards.....they decide what policy they want, and then make up 'facts' to support their policy. And stunningly, a lot of them genuinely believe that their "made up stuff" deserves equal consideration to "stuff that is actually true". It's why most of them can't be reasoned with. You actually have a shot at changing someone's mind (or having yours changed) when the facts are recognized by both sides. As things stand, it's almost impossible to have a reasonable debate on policy.
