listen to today's interview of Malalai Joya of current Afghanistan and of struggle of women

Listen on the link. She explains why NATO and US troops need to leave Afghanistan. Besides wasting our taxdollars the money is being funneled to Taliban and Warlords and Drug lords. All the while bringing more abuse and death to women and girls.

As US and NATO forces prepare for their final year of occupation before the war in Afghanistan officially winds down, many are asking, was it all worth it? Even Afghan President Hamid Karzai, considered by Afghans to be the West’s puppet, told the BBC this week that the war “caused a lot of suffering and a lot of loss of life and no gains because the country is not secure.”

Meanwhile Karzai is under severe pressure from the Obama Administration to pin down a “status-of-forces” agreement between the US and Afghanistan over how many US troops if any, will remain, and what their task will be.

What ordinary Afghans think about all this is rarely allowed to enter the equation. Today we’ll hear from a woman who has been a frequent guest on Uprising over the years. Called by many “the bravest woman in Afghanistan,” former Afghan parliamentarian, and author of A Woman Among Warlords, Malalai Joya, returns to Southern California for a series of events.

GUEST: Malalai Joya — not to be confused with the Pakistani girl Malala Yousafzai — gained international fame about 10 years ago when she confronted US-backed warlords at a constitutional assembly in Kabul. Since then she has been a marked woman, surviving numerous assassination attempts. But that did not deter her from winning a seat in Afghanistan’s new Parliament in 2005, representing her home province of Farah. She was kicked out of Parliament soon after by the very men who threaten her and went on to publish her memoir A Woman Among Warlords: The Extraordinary Story of an Afghan Who Dared to Raise her Voice.
