They fail to recognize that for decades the wages of millions of American workers have been too low to allow for supplementary retirement accounts. Well, maybe they recognize, they simply don't care.

(1,309 posts)Stop the CPI change. It hurts the millions on social security, al those drawing veterans benefits, federal workers now, Federal workers in the future, retired federal workers, Military and retired military etc.
It is our money. It has been systematically stolen since Gerald Ford by both parties and now rather than pay it back , they wish to run away from that repayment. Tell everyone you know. Social security is our money. It is only an entitlement because we paid it for ourselves. We dikd not pay it so the rich, the GOP, and the Teabaggers could have lower taxes.
President Obama is being disingenuous if he is really suggesting a switch to a changed and more stingy CPI. The Consumer Price Index already being used is based on the cost of living of a younger urban clerical worker. Where are the payments for meds? Where are the payments for those services the young can do for themselves and the older must buy? Our older people are subject to a much different cost of living than the young so lets just ignore this, and take their money okay? Of course not!
Although I am pretty much a lifelong non-union member, I thank the AFLCIO for their efforts for the people .

The ultra wealthy are worried about paying more taxes while the elderly and infirm are worried about their very survival.
Any Democrat that advocates cuts to social security and medicare is not worthy of the name. And that is a fact. There are no excuses.
There is no shortfall in social security and any shortfall in medicare should be corrected and it should be prioritized.
It wasn't our idea to wage two wars so third base, silver spoon, spoiled brat Dubya Bush could strut around like a cowboy hero and reward his supporters with lucrative no-bid contracts.
How many have been prosecuted for war profiteering in Iraq and Afghanistan? Hundreds of these fat cats should be behind bars. That should also be prioritized.
