Rep. Cohen (D), Tenn. seems like a good guy.

He was just discussing, on Up With Steve Kornacki, how the teabags are very dangerous people, due to their reckless and extremist tactics and views, including climate change and evolution denying. Said he really believed that a lot of what these clowns have pulled, since the day Obama was elected to the disastrous shut down, is blatant racism. Went on to point out that those in Congress are pledged to protect the country from all threats, foreign and domestic, and that the teabag wackos are of the domestic variety. WOW, that's the first time I've heard a congress critter so directly call those seditionists out!

I know absolutely nothing about Cohen except what I just heard from him, but he definitely seems to be a Southern politician the country and Democrats should be proud of.

but that was before televangelism piped propaganda into homes in the country 24/7.

I fondly remember Sen. Sam Ervin from NC. I met the man and he was wonderful, a crusty old codger who suffered no fools. He was also far from the only populist Democrat from the south.

Senator Sam retired in 1974. I have a feeling it's because Jesse Helms had been elected in 1972 and Ervin had a sense of where the country was headed and wanted no part of it.
