Christmas carols: I know people get really sick of Christmas music being played on the radio

and in every store from Halloween to Christmas. As it happens, I sing in two choirs. What I'd love to do is sing a nice arrangement of traditional carols. Instead, every music director feels compelled to dig up the latest and greatest. Ironically, these are often not very "christmasy" at all, just sort of generic Christian rock.

The set of contemporary carols I really like and have never sung are the ones John Williams wrote for the Home Alone movies.

Having a soft spot for many of the traditional Christmas Carols. I know, sounds strange.

Most modern Christmas songs suck.

A few I like, though:

Among others.

5. The one song that gets sung every year is the Alleluia Chorus -

which is really an Easter Song! Because we sing it every year, our choir director thinks we don't need to practice it!

there's lots of secular Christmas music out there. Hearing religious music in a store confuses people who think they are at church!

9. It really should not be played in stores at all. There are customers of many faiths that shop in

those stores and they really should not be bombarded like that. Not even with Christmas music. People that want to hear Christmas music can do so by turning a radio dial, putting a CD into their player or going to church or a recital. It should be by choice. Not forced on people.

11. Do you differentiate between secular and sacred Christmas music?

For me, as soon as Jesus is mentioned, it's rather sacrilegious to be playing it in an attempt to get people to buy things.

10. Pretty much all the music they play in chain stores & malls sucks.

They play it way too loud, too. The crappy Christmas music is only slightly more annoying than the usual fare.

I do try to shop at locally owned stores, for the most part. The shitty music in the chain stores serves as additional motivation.

Christmas items that play the same thing over and over and over where the store clerks are forced to listen!
