By Chuck Squatriglia

The Chevrolet Volt and its kissing cousin, the Opel Ampera, are Europes Car of the Year, beating compacts from Volkswagen and Ford to add another award to the cars trophy shelf.
The award, announced today ahead of the Geneva auto show, came two days after General Motors said it will suspend production of the plug-in hybrid for five weeks because of slow sales.
Still, the fact that the car is selling slower than expected didnt dampen the enthusiasm of the 59 judges, from 23 European nations, who gave the Volt and Ampera top honors. The car is, frankly, an engineering marvel and a true technological step forward, points the judges made.
The judges called the Chevrolet Volt and Opel Ampera a mature product that is better suited to consumers needs than the conventional electric car. They predicted well see more plug-in hybrids as others will come along this path.

I have to say the Opel version looks better IMO.

It may just be because it is new to me but I like the Opel more too.

(13,186 posts)Gingrich put down an American made product. Really funny, huh? Just what we need in a President. Someone who ridicules something produced in America by American workers. And he's supposed to the be the smart one.
When is the last time a Republican had anything good to say about America? While the country searches for and tries to attract new business, Republicans do nothing but put us down and call us "business unfriendly."

(4,491 posts)Anyone who is going to put $40,000+ on a car isn't going to be looking at a Chevy unless it is a Corvette. People with this kind of money for a car aren't currently worried about gas prices therefore they will be looking a Mercedes, BMW, Lexus, etc.
