Cheney Disabled Heart Device to Foil Terrorists
Former Vice President Dick Cheney told 60 Minutes that in 2007 his cardiologist disabled his defibrillator's wireless function over concern that terrorists could use it to send a fatal shock.
Said Cheney: "I was aware of the danger...that existed...I found it credible. I know from the experience we had and the necessity for adjusting my own device, that it was an accurate portrayal of what was possible."

(10,751 posts)...I think it was reasonable and prudent to take those steps. Any US President or Vice President, or most any head of state for that matter, could be targeted by terrorists these days. In the case of Cheney and Bush, all the more so.
I still loathe the man though.

Hello? Hello, Dimitri? Listen, I can't hear too well, do you suppose you could turn the music down just a little? Oh, that's much better. Yes. Fine, I can hear you now, Dimitri. Clear and plain and coming through fine. I'm coming through fine too, eh? Good, then. Well then as you say we're both coming through fine. Good. Well it's good that you're fine and I'm fine. I agree with you. It's great to be fine.
(laughs)
Now then Dimitri. You know how we've always talked about the possibility of something going wrong with the bomb. The bomb, Dimitri. The hydrogen bomb. Well now what happened is, one of our base commanders, he had a sort of, well he went a little funny in the head. You know. Just a little... funny. And uh, he went and did a silly thing.
(listens)
Well, I'll tell you what he did, he ordered his planes... to attack your country.
(listens)
Well let me finish, Dimitri. Let me finish, Dimitri.
(listens)
Well, listen, how do you think I feel about it? Can you imagine how I feel about it, Dimitri? Why do you think I'm calling you? Just to say hello?
(listens)
Of course I like to speak to you. Of course I like to say hello. Not now, but any time, Dimitri. I'm just calling up to tell you something terrible has happened.

(36,418 posts)Do you think it holds up well as a film? As a comedy, it's a bit labored at places (most of the war room scenes, except Sellers as Adlai Stevenson and as Henry Kissinger), morbidly brilliant at others (Sterling Hayden and Sellers, again, as Group Capt. Mandrake in Gen. Ripper's office). George C. Scott is way, way over-the-top as Gen Turgeson.
But, Sterling Hayden and Slim Pickens really steal the show.

(58,162 posts)i have a defibrillator that is`t monitored by a wireless device. there are distance restrictions when i use electrical devices.
the wireless device is used to send a signal to a near by device (usually near where one sleeps) and that device sends signals back to monitoring company.i still have`t figured out how a terrorist can send a signal to a remote device and that device sends enough electricity to the implanted device.
but he does`t have to worry now. he does`t have a pulse or for that matter a functioning heart. he has a pump that constantly pumps blood through his body.
so now we can finally say without making it up...cheney really does not have a heart.
