I can't begin to tell you how furious I am and deeply disappointed with what our politics has turned into, when you want an office sooooo much you would stand by as an young woman is slurred in such a manner. None of the GOP candidates has the character it takes to lead this country.
Romney could have earned respect from everyone, I MEAN EVERYONE if he would have stood up and defended that young lady's right to speak before congress without this vulgar filthy talk.
Santorum being a man with deep spiritual beliefs, I am shocked he would allow this without stepping up to defend this girl as Christ defended the sinner about to be stoned. He showed poor judgement.
And it is. I am Sorry, decent people don't call other people's children those names. I don't want a person who would in the office of President.

(14,177 posts)It all started in about 2008. I don't know what happened, but it was bad. I have because of this rabid behavior in conservatives been moving farther and farther left. It actually feels like I am being pushed, but whatever. They are batshitcrazy and any belief I have in common with them has to be examined and most likely discarded. Last week, when the attack on the pill went down, I became a feminist. Now, I am thinking I might be a full blown slut(even though I am celibate) just because it seems that this is the thing they fear the most a woman who doesn't just take the double standard and suck it up.

(41,990 posts)Those "beliefs" seem to be a matter of convenience and what is most likely to get votes. They're so freaked out these days that they can't read public opinion so they start flinging and wait for what sticks. Fortunately, we're no longer naive and uninformed and they just can't lie like they used to.

(2,830 posts)But I am glad that the right-wing's true agenda - their true core beliefs - have been exposed.
Hopefully, center-rights and independents will be so completely disgusted with just how far the right has regressed. They will realize just how much taking these extremist social views has completely damaged their political factions.
I hope that this will be a wake up call for everyone and see where these people want to lead this country.
In this regards, Fluke is indeed a hero as she will continue to face a vicious onslaught by the right-wing media and the right-wing brown-shirts. I'm sure their stormtroopers have already leveled a barrage of threats against her.
This is the line in the sand. We cannot bend this time or our country will break.
