I live in a small city in MI that has local laws supporting equal rights no matter anyone's sexual orientation. In a deep red county but the city itself is very blue.

Looking forward to attending a wedding or two in the future. We have some county clerks in MI that are fired up and ready to start giving out marriage licenses to same sex couples as soon as they legally can.

PA is starting to look awfully lonely in this part of the country. We're surrounded by equality. Unfortunately, our Governor Gashole and his legislature is more concerned with protecting pedophiles, cutting aid to the poor, and giving tax breaks to frackers.

I am elated for some friends in New Jersey who can finally get married.

Same-Sex Couples Sue Tennessee for Marriage Recognition

New Jersey isn’t the only state making marriage equality news today; four same-sex couples who live in Tennessee but were legally married elsewhere filed a lawsuit calling for their home state to recognize their marriages.

The suit, filed in U.S. District Court in Nashville, says Tennessee’s law prohibiting recognition of their marriages violates the U.S. Constitution’s guarantees of equal protection and due process and the constitutionally protected right to travel between and move to other states, according to a press release from the National Center for Lesbian Rights, which is representing them along with attorneys from Nashville and Knoxville.

The couples are Valeria Tanco and Sophy Jesty of Knoxville; Army Reserve Sgt. First Class Ijpe DeKoe and Thom Kostura of Memphis; Kellie Miller and Vanessa DeVillez of Greenbrier; and Matthew Mansell and Johno Espejo of Franklin. The first three were wed in New York, the fourth in California.

“Getting married not only enabled us to express our love and commitment to one another, but it also provided us with the protections we would need as we started our new lives together,” said Jesty, who moved to Tennessee with her wife in 2011 to take a teaching position at the University of Tennessee College of Veterinary Medicine in Knoxville, where Tanco also teaches. “When we moved to Tennessee, we lost those protections. Now that Val is pregnant with our first child, having those protections is more important than ever.”

of marriage equality, was born and raised Bayonne. Bayonne, if you're unfamiliar with it, is one of the most maligned cities in the state. Everybody loves to make fun of us, but we're the city that produced Mary Jacobson. Barney Frank hails from Bayonne as well. Today, I'm proud to call Bayonne home!

Get a t-shirt!

http://www.marriageissogay.com

Starting with number "1" each t-shirt's label features a unique, handwritten number noting the number of people sporting the tee to date.

We will host an equality party when our t-shirt counter hits 100,000 people supporting marriage equality. We donate a portion of the proceeds from each "Marriage Is So Gay" tee sold to organizations promoting marriage equality.

We love our friends. We love marriage. We think marriage is so gay.

*Tees also available at Human Rights Campaign retail stores in San Francisco, Provincetown, and Washington, DC.

A ballot initiative is in the works. People are enthusiastically signing to get it on the ballot, and the Portland business community is lining up behind the measure. I think the entire left coast will be solidly in the "right" camp by the end of 2014.

Peeps in the deep south such as Georgia where I live now will freak out. It will be on par, and I do not mean to diminish the difference with the civil rights movement where a black person could not use a restroom, drinking fountain or dining counter with a white, with desegregation.

I will qualify that by saying that as an upwardly-mobile gay white man I have experienced taunting in junior high and high school and the usual gossiping at class reunions and family get togethers but have been blessed. My family acknowledged my sexual orientation without a problem and I have worked back through those former classmates and family members and gained acceptance and understanding. I have had it relatively easy...not like the gay youth that are taunted until the kill themselves or children thrown out of their homes for who they are.

But there is an element of drama and humanity in the fight for marriage equality that back-ends equality and protection from job, housing, employment, etc. discrimination that follows the continued struggle of the black and brown minorities for their rightful and respected place in our society.

You know, Santorum was right about one thing. We Poly's are waiting in the wings and while I'm too old to be in the fight now, one day, marriage will be between consenting adults and not necessarily just two. I spent most of my life in triads and quads and we fought for gay rights, not only because it's right, but because it's the first step.

Here in Australia, he Australian Capital Territory became the first part of Australia to legalize same-sex marriage today

Unfortunately the ACT is a territory with inferior constitutional rights to the Australian states (kind of like Washington DC) and our right-wing, homophobic federal government is trying to have the law overturned in the High Court. But it's a still a historic and unprecedented step forward for the cause in Australia and our state government in New South Wales (which is controlled by the conservatives but they are much more progressive than their federal counterparts) is currently looking into ways of legalizing same-sex marriage statewide. So it is finally gaining traction!

ASHEVILLE — Buncombe County Register of Deeds Drew Reisinger accepted marriage license applications from 18 gay couples Tuesday in hopes of convincing N.C. Attorney General Roy Cooper the state’s ban on same-sex marriage is unconstitutional.
