GOP lawmaker calls book fair a ‘failure’ over student’s pro-LGBT T-shirt

Republican Missouri state Representative Kevin Elmer has deemed a high school book fair a “failure” after he discovered one teenage student was wearing a T-shirt supportive of LGBT rights.

According to The Springfield News-Leader, Elmer tweeted a photograph of the girl wearing a Gay-Straight Alliance T-shirt that had the word “harmony” on it.

“Nixa Schools failure. HS students working elementary school book fair in gay t-shirts,” Elmer wrote. The lawmaker later deleted the tweet.

“I just think it’s inappropriate to be promoting any sexual relationship in an elementary school, whether it’s heterosexual or homosexual,” he explained to the News-Leader. “It’s not a gay rights issue, it’s a parental issue.”

You have to click on the link to see the shirt since it's in a video format that can't be embedded here. The shirt promotes tolerance not sexuality.

people together, linking hands or arms on shoulders. Harmony. Funny, that seems to be a vital part of society, or it did till the baggers and other repigs started trying to tear it down.

have any pictures of their husbands on their desks/walls advertising their sex lives (reference to the article).

(The same response I made to my daughter's vice principal when he threatened to suspend one of her friends for a shirt suggesting she had a girlfriend.)
