My premiums with the dental plan (that I did not have previously) are less than my worthless high-deductible, no prescription drug benefit, fucking Tea Party enabled "health insurance".
Don't Tread on my Obamacare.

(2,702 posts)I'm covered by my employer, so it doesn't matter in my case - but in Virginia, it would cost me (with a wife and four kids) between $800 and $1600 a month for insurance. $800 for the lowest of the Bronze plans and $1600 for the highest of the Platinum plans. I'm just barely over the income where I would qualify for assistance buying insurance. Are these in line with the unsubsidized numbers in other states, or is it just high here because I live in a state that fought against implementing the ACA?

(62,276 posts)I'm sure you're aware of this I'm just clarifying why it would be less costly comparatively.
The list:
7 states have an Exchange run via state-federal partnership: Arkansas, Illinois, Michigan, West Virginia, Delaware, Iowa, New Hampshire.
26 states have a Federally-facilitated Exchange (FFE): Alaska, Alabama, Arizona, Florida, Georgia, Indiana, Kansas, Louisiana, Maine, Mississippi, Missouri, Montana, Nebraska, North Carolina, North Dakota, Ohio, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, South Dakota, Tennessee, Texas, Virginia, Wisconsin,Wyoming.

(53,061 posts)Some of them, like Arizona have agreed to the expansion of Medicaid, while others like Texas have not and that has a big impact on the subsidy levels (I think).
joshcryer
(62,276 posts)Can't find it. I thought that the FFE's were states that didn't expand and they were basically making HHS do everything.
edit: ahah, found this: http://www.advisory.com/Daily-Briefing/2012/11/09/MedicaidMap
So there is a bit of overlap. We can be assured that the states not participating are going to be more costly.

(108,980 posts)is on COBRA right now, after aging out of his dad's policy -- and it costs $500 a month, just for him (for a plan like a gold plan). So a platinum plan for a couple and their four children for $1600 doesn't sound that bad to me.

(16,375 posts)nobody in your family has ever had any kind of illness worse than a common cold. If any of you had anything that might possibly indicate that you'd actually use the insurance, one or all of you would be turned down flat. And even if you were accepted and paid all your premiums, it was always iffy if they'd pay your claims.
Five years ago, my professional group's plan for me, individually, went up to $1,400 a month. So the amount you were quoted was pretty good in comparison.

Don't Tread on My Obamacare: A Son's Battle Cry
snip//
"March 23 marked the third anniversary of the passage of the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act, colloquially known as Obamacare, and still its bitter and selfish enemies plot to repeal the law.
With eight months to go before Obamacare (what began as an epithet is now a title of pride) goes into full effect, a cabal of health insurers, retailers and restaurants are waging a coordinated effort to gain Senate Democratic support for overturning the taxes that will be used to fund the new law, and repealing a mandate requiring employers to provide insurance coverage for full-time workers or pay a fine. Republican support is a given.
The campaign is backed by two of the business world's lobbying powerhouses: the U.S. Chamber of Commerce and the National Federation of Independent Business. The latter had a leading role in 2012's failed attempt to overturn Obamacare in the Supreme Court.
With Congress mired in partisan gridlock, lobbyists are seizing the opportunity to renew attacks on the law's projected costs that they hope will strike a chord with lawmakers whose attention is shifting to the 2014 congressional elections and the campaign donations they feed on.
To those politicians of weak will and compromised integrity I warn: Keep your hands off Obamacare."

(90,714 posts)A flag for us-- instead of the yellow rattlesnake "Don't Tread on Me" maybe what we need is the two snakes of the medical caduceus with "Don't Tread on My Obama Care!"

(90,714 posts)I'm just fantasizing about the flag bit. I am just so sick of the teapartiers misappropriating the Gadsden Flag, among other things.

Maybe an appropriate response to friends or acquaintances of Bitchers and Moaners is to just offer to help them with it. Hey, dude, I'll help you out. Kind of a put up or shut up deal.
