Is the "fix" to logging into the ACA website REALLY this simple? Really??!?

Going "incognito" on Google Chrome? It can't be that simple, can it?

(CTRL-SHIFT-N, in case you're wondering).

Cookies? This seems too simplistic for all the hubbub.

http://www.deseretnews.com/article/865588851/Ogden-man-bypasses-Affordable-Care-Act-website-bug.html

A Utah man said he accidentally stumbled upon a way to bypass a bug that's been plaguing the Affordable Care Act website since it launched Oct. 1.

...

Bennett, an Ogden resident and founder of VideoPress, said during his attempts to log in he was directed to a white screen and couldn't go forward in the enrollment process.

“Because I’m a nerd, I was able to look into that a little bit," he said. "I figured out this white screen was happening because the Web browser was sending the server some bad information.”

...

Bennett's solution was to open a Google Chrome browser in incognito mode, which allows users to browse the Internet without recording the website and download history. It also deletes cookies, or information storage, after a window is closed.

...

Bennett said he happened to go back to HealthCare.gov and logged in. The white screen then redirected him to the main page.

Now he, his wife and 2-year-old son are ready for Jan. 1, when their new insurance will go into effect.

Can someone who's been having trouble try this and see if it actually works?

Oct 2013

I had already successfully registered an account last week after many failed registration attempts, using Firefox.

Then today when I went to browse and compare plans further before committing, Firefox kept taking me to a blank white page after logging in.

Then on a whim, I decided to try using Internet Explorer 10 for the first time and got in just fine and completed the enrollment process.

So maybe it does have something to do with the cookies.

But who knows? Maybe bad cookies were behind those verification problems some people were having as well?

I had to go to the MS website to find how to do it:

Where is the Start menu?
Applies to Windows 8.1, Windows RT 8.1
The Start screen replaces the Start menu in Windows 8 and Windows RT.

Open Start by swiping in from the right edge of the screen (or if you're using a mouse, pointing to the upper-right corner of the screen and moving the mouse pointer down), and then tapping or clicking Start.

Tip

You can also use the Windows key Windows key on your keyboard to go to Start.
