Going "incognito" on Google Chrome? It can't be that simple, can it?
(CTRL-SHIFT-N, in case you're wondering).
Cookies? This seems too simplistic for all the hubbub.

Bennett, an Ogden resident and founder of VideoPress, said during his attempts to log in he was directed to a white screen and couldn't go forward in the enrollment process.
Because Im a nerd, I was able to look into that a little bit," he said. "I figured out this white screen was happening because the Web browser was sending the server some bad information.
...
Bennett's solution was to open a Google Chrome browser in incognito mode, which allows users to browse the Internet without recording the website and download history. It also deletes cookies, or information storage, after a window is closed.
...
Bennett said he happened to go back to HealthCare.gov and logged in. The white screen then redirected him to the main page.
Now he, his wife and 2-year-old son are ready for Jan. 1, when their new insurance will go into effect.
Can someone who's been having trouble try this and see if it actually works?

(5,330 posts)I had already successfully registered an account last week after many failed registration attempts, using Firefox.
Then today when I went to browse and compare plans further before committing, Firefox kept taking me to a blank white page after logging in.
Then on a whim, I decided to try using Internet Explorer 10 for the first time and got in just fine and completed the enrollment process.
So maybe it does have something to do with the cookies.

(14,139 posts)I don't know diddley about computers or programming. But you'd think that the tech guys (at Experian, wasn't it?) could have figured out the problem with freakin' cookies and done something to prevent this mess. Like, a couple months ago.

I think you will agree that this is not an issue with most websites.
Some people trying to sign up have NO IDEA what cookies even are.

(21,115 posts)cookie...thats whats going on...you have to get rid of that one...so you can get a new one.
Ask any of your IT friends how to clear cache and cookies for your operating system....its very easy and they should do it in a matter of seconds....
It's something that needs to be done every so often so you should have them teach you how while they are at it....
having trouble with a video? Clear cache....often that is all you need to do. So have someone show you how...

(5,330 posts)I never had a problem verifying my identity using that Experian pull like some others have. Once I finally got my account registered, I was able to sail through all the verification questions just fine (took about an hour with short intermittent delays) before I could start browsing plans.
But who knows? Maybe bad cookies were behind those verification problems some people were having as well?

(6,685 posts)I use the Kentucky site which worked OK. One of the neighbors is in the process of moving to Georgia so she had to use the Federal site. Would not work with Firefox at all. Even with IE it was very slow and buggy.

(3,111 posts)I've been able to create an account and apply, and I can see my application has been processed when I log in to my account. My problem is I get the blank white page if I try to "View Eligibility Results." So that's where I'm stuck.
Oddly enough, the "Enroll" button works just fine and I've been able to browse plans and such.

(3,111 posts)...tried Internet Explorer, Firefox and Chrome. I've called, spoken with them, I've done live chat. Now, I'm just reduced to trying to get it to work once a day and letting them know that the problem still exists. Last call in 4 days ago, they transferred me to a techie type customer service person who suggested clearing cookies and cache, and when that didn't work they said someone would call me within 48 hrs. Didn't happen. *sigh*

Now, can you really not find the start button on 8?
ScreamingMeemie
(68,918 posts)It's a pullout tab on the right that took forever to find. Hate Windows 8, but I am sure I'll get used to it.

(45,358 posts)The pullout menu on the right isn't the start button.
Whoa. I think we found the problem!

Common Sense Party
(14,139 posts)I had to go to the MS website to find how to do it:
Where is the Start menu?
Applies to Windows 8.1, Windows RT 8.1
The Start screen replaces the Start menu in Windows 8 and Windows RT.
Open Start by swiping in from the right edge of the screen (or if you're using a mouse, pointing to the upper-right corner of the screen and moving the mouse pointer down), and then tapping or clicking Start.
Tip
You can also use the Windows key Windows key on your keyboard to go to Start.

(7,754 posts)It's free and it works. I guess I should make the change but don't feel like doing it so I just added classic shell and voila, I'm back to mostly XP. You once again have your classic start menu, control panel, etc. Works for me.

Delete your browsers cache (history/memory). To see instructions on how to clear your browsers cache, please see the How do I clear my browsers cache (history/memory)? question in the dropdown menu at the bottom of this page.

That log in question you asked is usually where it starts.
Here is part of what I've had to deal with. Healthcare.gov dead ended in a spiderweb for me and I was advised to do everything over the phone and though the mail.

Despite clearing my cookies, I couldn't login today (which suggests that they're working on the problem). So I tried the private window trick (Firefox Macintosh) and it worked perfectly -- became a member of my state's Medicare expansion within fifteen minutes!
