A thread for those on DU, and everywhere, who are suffering...

Fellow DUers sometimes share of their loss and their pain, giving us the opportunity to offer condolences and well wishes. Online communities such as this ARE a support system. It IS a community in every sense of the word.

When members share their pain and loss and fears, they provide us with the gift of being able to acknowledge their suffering...the gift of seeing them and hearing them.

I fear I miss many posts in which people share something personal, so I'm taking this opportunity to send good vibes and hugs of support to all here...and those who may stumble upon this post who aren't even members at DU...especially if you're suffering in any way.

Please join me in doing so if you'd like.

Compassion is not a relationship between the healer and the wounded. It's a relationship between equals. Only when we know our own darkness well can we be present with the darkness of others. Compassion becomes real when we recognize our shared humanity.” - Pema Chödrön

I see so much pain here and elsewhere online, and I really do care about every single case, even though I don't know anyone here personally. I wish I were in a position to offer practical help, but my own life is a mess, so here's a hug & a prayer for anyone who needs it.

My wife's mom passed away peacefully Sunday morning, following a very difficult battle with multiple health issues, as well as a pretty unhappy life after her husband dumped her following his "graduation" from AA. My wife's efforts here for her mom (she managed to get hospice care started, meaning passing at home instead of a hospital or rehab), and her difficult family, only reinforced what a really lucky man I am to have married such an angel.

Hugs to all - I know others have experienced losses recently; just haven't had time to acknowledge them in specific threads.

Condolences on the passing of your mother-in-law, NRaleighLiberal.

What a blessing that she had her loving daughter and you by her side. I'm sure your wife is as grateful for you as you are for her.

to you all.

Even after 33 years of marriage, my wife and I seem to manage to surprise each other in positive ways all the time - and we are also finding that having each other means we can each put up with more than we could otherwise.

It was a privilege to be able to help my mom in law on her journey - we did the same in recent years with my dad and my wife's dad. Certainly not easy times, but they make a permanent impression and become part of us through the experience.

I couldn't agree more, about the challenges and learning and growth within ourselves.

You've both had your share of struggle in recent years, it seems. I hope the path forward is one of grace and ease for a long, long time.

but I do 100% appreciate the support and acknowledgement I've received from others on this forum. There are several people on this forum who have done more for me than they might ever really know.

I might be a cold and emotionally distant person much of the time, but it doesn't mean that I don't appreciate the love and support given to me.

Thanks everyone.

If you have time (and even if a TED talk turns you off...if you're familiar with TED, that is), I highly recommend this video in which Brene Brown is speaking. Obviously I know nothing about you and you may hate that I'm even sharing this video, but this is one talk I wish everyone would watch.

We're all vulnerable, we're all broken to some degree, and we all have a tendency to cringe and react negatively in the face of it all. If you have time, I highly recommend it.

A for you, Victor_c3.
