In MO Tyson contracts with small farmers to run factory farms for chickens (farmer covers all the liability and Tyson gets the product of course).
Some are splitting their lots among family so each separate "farm" qualifies to have a large factory unit on it.
State of MO DNR was OK with that.
So any numbers on remaining "family farms" may not be accurate and may be why they are so rabidly republican.

the minimal amount required by law.

I think JL had two, maybe three cows on his property ... Yoko had researched the minimum required to get the tax break.

Like in "The Restaurant at the End of the Universe" ... spending a year dead for tax purposes ..

I think they had a segment on Food Inc. (documentary). I know that I saw it somewhere.

The chicken processors require them to upgrade their systems or they don't supply them with chickens. It's a sad situation. Of course the small farmer has to finance the upgrades and if they don't perform the latest upgrade - they still have expenses, but no income.

the Republican Health Care Plan, because I never get sick.

I'm being slightly ironic, since I actually have a good health-care plan, but I really don't get sick.

However, I don't think others should somehow magically be as healthy as I am. And even if I'm totally down on smoking, and I'm sometimes a bit judgmental about the obese, I NEVER think that bad personal decisions should disqualify someone from health care. Just the results of those poor judgements are punishment enough. People still deserve health care.

Nor should I get to pay lower taxes because I'm healthy. I want a true single payer system, even though it means I might pay higher taxes for it. We are all here to help each other, is my belief.
