Conservatives were quick to tout Consumer Reports as more evidence of a disastrous Obamacare rollout last week, after the magazine published an article recommending consumers stay away from the plagued federal health care exchange website for "at least another month."
On Tuesday the product reviewer sought to clarify its initial article, which included an interview with a professional software tester, by stressing that opponents of the Affordable Care Act "misrepresented" their position.
"Pundits opposed to the new health care law and some media outlets have tried to suggest that our coverage of the troubled HealthCare.gov site means that Consumer Reports has turned against the Affordable Care Act," wrote Nancy Metcalf, who covers health care for Consumer Reports. "Not true. Consistent with our mission to inform and protect consumers, particularly in this complicated health care market, our advice remains the same: The best place to buy coverage on your own is through the Health Insurance Marketplace in your state."

President Obama:
Yesterday, we updated the websites home page to offer more information about the other avenues to enroll in affordable health care until the online option works for everybody. So youll find information about how to talk to a specialist who can help you apply over the phone or to receive a downloadable application you can fill out yourself and mail in.
Weve also added more staff to the call centers where you can apply for insurance over the phone. Those are already -- they've been working. But a lot of people have decided first to go to the website. But keep in mind, these call centers are already up and running. And you can get your questions answered by real people, 24 hours a day, in 150 different languages. The phone number for these call centers is 1-800-318-2596. I want to repeat that -- 1-800-318-2596. Wait times have averaged less than one minute so far on the call centers, although I admit that the wait times probably might go up a little bit now that I've read the number out loud on national television. (Laughter.)

(15,438 posts)And that includes those who are still pissed President Obama didn't get single-payer through. Yep, they align with the Republicans and Tealibans in that regard. If we keep that in mind during this bumpy roll out, we'll be able to keep things in perspective.
Also, less than twenty states have opened their exchanges, and those are going smoothly. Those states that refused to open their own exchanges force their constituents to go to the Federal exchange because their governors and legislatures are Republican. If they had Democratic governors and legislatures, they'd have their own exchanges and have NO problem registering for affordable health care. This is something we also need to keep in mind.

That might bring in most of the "single payer" folks that are skewing the polls.

(15,438 posts)that the ACA should not be repealed. It was in the same poll that showed that a small majority of Americans weren't happy with the PPACA. Of course, being the corporate lackeys they are, Corporate Media ignored the huge majority that don't want the PPACA repealed and instead hammered on the small majority that "weren't happy" with the PPACA - without further explanation - and that became the nation's narrative. Even on MSNBC.

I shudder to think of the little bit that Obama has been able to accomplish coming undone with Rs in the White House and controlling congress by then.

(26,449 posts)I suppose I should let this go, but piss off.
I'm one who is pissed that Obama traded drug negotiation and a single payer plan away early in the negotiations. I'm pissed that there wasn't a public option at the end either.
Nonetheless I do see Obamacare as an incremental improvement. I'm pretty sure those you would label Obama haters agree with me that this is an incremental improvement.
I haven't seen Obamacare or the rollout bashed from the left here so until you produce evidence of that, you can go take a running leap at a rolling donut.

(15,438 posts)You need to chill out and dial it down a bit. There was no need to get personal.
If the shoe doesn't fit, why the outrage to the point of passionate defensiveness?
And I didn't mean DUers "bashing" the roll-out, although there are some here and I'm certain you've seen them and they, themselves, have admitted they're no fans of Obama or ObamaCare.
But I meant Jon Stewart's latest "How will Democrats spin this turd" and "When did POTUS turn into Gil on the Simpsons" remarks. Last I've looked, he's pretty much on the Left and he was pro-single-payer, no?
So, there's your evidence. But despite that Jon Stewart is proof that my post is correct, far be it for me to tell you to piss off. I wouldn't be so crass.

(15,438 posts)set up Healthcare.gov to work properly, allowing the HHS NO time to alpha or beta test before the roll out and guaranteeing that it would have problems so they could run to the mics and cameras to declare that "ObamaCare has failed!".
DUer ehrnst posted the following ( http://www.democraticunderground.com/?com=view_post&forum=1002&pid=3900533 ):
"It is a mess and there's no sugarcoating it, and people shouldn't sugarcoat that," says Jay Angoff, who formerly ran the health exchange program for the Department of Health and Human Services. "On the other hand, people should remember that those who are in charge of the money HHS needs to implement the federal exchange are dedicated to the destruction of the federal exchange, and the destruction of the Affordable Care Act."
Which led to the first big problem money. When it became clear that HHS would need more money to build the federal exchange than had been allocated in the original law, Republicans in Congress refused to provide it.
As a result, says Angoff, officials "had to scrape together money from various offices within HHS to build the federal exchange."
Incompetence is not the reason for the bumpy Healthcare.gov roll-out. Republican obstructionism is.
