Michael Bloomberg to buy big for Terry McAuliffe

Michael Bloomberg’s pro-gun-control super PAC will drop $1.1 million on ads for Democrat Terry McAuliffe in the final two weeks of the Virginia governor’s race.

The billionaire New York City mayor’s money will be siphoned through Independence USA PAC into broadcast television commercials in the D.C. market, according to two sources tracking the air war.

An adviser to the outgoing mayor did not respond to an email seeking more detail on the ads, which will begin running Tuesday and continue through the eve of the Nov. 5 election.

McAuliffe has courted and wooed Bloomberg, privately seeking his support on a trip to New York City Hall in August.

Neither of these two guys fill me with pride. Bloomberg is the asshole who vigorously defended New York's Stop and Frisk policy and McAuliffe is the guy under who the Democrats lost election after election. I'd like to see the Democratic Party do better than these two losers.

Then it needs to send out a clear message that it's the party of the people, ALL PEOPLE. Palling around with a guy who made all minorities criminals and subject to constant police harassment is not a good way to achieve this.

Besides, McAulliffe is going to stomp on Kookinelli anyways.

What I'm saying is that if the Democratic Party doesn't stop pandering to assholes like Bloomberg, then eventually the Independents and others will leave and vote Republican again. All you have to do is look at 2010 for that.

If, on the other hand, the Democrats were to actually take a stand and refuse Bloomberg's help on the basis that he championed the oppression of minorities, then I think they could win over a majority for generations. Ever notice that whenever Democrats actually stand up to Republicans they tend to come out on top, whereas when they cater to them they tend to lose? Obama and the Democrats were slipping in the polls prior to the shutdown, the result of the NSA scandal and Obama's brief Syria war campaigning. But when they took a stand, the Republicans crashed and burned and Obama came out looking like a superstar.

I want the Democrats to win. Pandering to assholes like Bloomberg is not the way to do that in the long term. Republican lite NEVER does that. And if you doubt that, just look at McAuliffe's record as DNC chairman.

For about the hundredth time, it was moderates and Independents that abandoned the Dems in 2010, not true progressives. And they abandoned them because they had gone Republican lite, as they will every time Dems make a lurch to the right.

Your inability to accept history is why we have the nutty teabaggers in power we do now, not the other way around.

I suppose I did miss your other pro-McAuliffe posts, so for that I do apologize.

There is no antipathy or anything else against you. If you look at your posts, you'll see that I quite often rec what you write.

My only point: If you want to bash McAuliffe and encourage others to do so, do it before the primary. We have an election to win.
