The Japanese Love Industry

So folks are wondering in the other thread why the Japanese aren't breeding like rabbits.

As usual, one of the last outlets of real journalism is all over it---(just popped up on my subscriptions )

Kick for others----

VICE- The Japanese Love Industry

Japan is a country that is dying—literally. Japan has more people over the age of 65 and the smallest number of people under the age of 15 in the world. It has the fastest negative population growth in the world, and that's because hardly anyone is having babies. In these difficult times, the Japanese are putting marriage and families on the back burner and seeking recreational love and affection as a form of cheap escape with no strings attached. We sent Ryan Duffy to investigate this phenomenon, which led him to Tokyo's cuddle cafes and Yakuza-sponsored prostitution rings.

I will never get the fascination of being tied up like that...and I think that is a good thing!

There is truly no place on earth like it.

He shows all the lovable weirdness that makes Japan the place it is.

Who begged, pleaded, cajoled, and finally threatened us to be assigned to this story, to investigate this phenomenon.

I'm not expert on Japanese culture by any means, but the clubs where all they do is talk and dote on the customers seems like an offshoot of Geishas, where one needs to be attentive and witty and ready to serve, but unlike the Geishas they don't have to memorize poetry or play a traditional instrument (although who knows, maybe they do anyway). And also unlike the Geishas, there are male and female versions.
