Yes, I think it's awful what Maher once said about Palin

compared to RUSH LIMBAUGH CALLING SANDRA FLUKE A SLUT AND A PROSTITUTE.

And I think it's appalling what Ed Shultz once said about Laura Ingraham compared to RUSH LIMBAUGH CALLING SANDRA FLUKE A SLUT AND A PROSTITUTE.

References have been made to Don Imus' insulting words. They were deplorable, compared to RUSH LIMBAUGH CALLING SANDRA FLUKE A SLUT AND A PROSTITUTE.

People have even brought up Michael Richards' tirade lately. I think that was awful too, compared to RUSH LIMBAUGH CALLING SANDRA FLUKE A SLUT AND A PROSTITUTE.

Apologists, knock yourselves out. Feel free to bring up every false equivalency you care to, because it helps us remember that RUSH LIMBAUGH CALLED SANDRA FLUKE A SLUT AND A PROSTITUTE.

Just sayin'

Maher is now defending Limbaugh's bullshit apology, yet you're still sticking with your story that his behavior is not as bad as Limbaugh's.

Mar 2012

Besides, it's a fallacious argument.

Two Wrongs Make A Right or Tu Quoque

A charge of wrongdoing is answered by a rationalization that others have sinned, or might have sinned.

Tu Quoque is a very common fallacy in which one attempts to defend oneself or another from criticism by turning the critique back against the accuser. This is a classic Red Herring since whether the accuser is guilty of the same, or a similar, wrong is irrelevant to the truth of the original charge. However, as a diversionary tactic, Tu Quoque can be very effective, since the accuser is put on the defensive, and frequently feels compelled to defend against the accusation.

This form of the argument, familiar from everyday disagreements, is as follows:
A makes criticism P.
A is also guilty of P.
Therefore, P is dismissed.

I didn't like the words Maher used either, but I also recognize Maher is a Comedian.

rush is NOT AND he is on Public Radio with a LOT of listeners believing Every word he utters. There is No comparison.
Imus "paid" for his improprieties both socially and financially.
Ed Shultz, Immediately apologized, suspended himself from MSNBC for what he'd stated on his Radio Program, Personally called Ingram to apologize as well apologizing to All Americans. She graciously accepted yet currently demands a call from the President also. Shultz didn't Pound on her for more than 3 days, relentlessly. Another False Equivalency!

Yes, False Equivalency indeed! Desperate people resort to desperate means.
I have never had a "use" for the MediaCons out there, but I must say I LOVE the corner they have put themselves in. They are just reinforcing with Proof what "we" have long stated.

and hear "entertainers" disparaging women -- unless I tune into Conservative talk shows, and specifically Rush Limbaugh. The public airwaves need to have more civility, and less name-calling. Names that police officers have used to justify assault and rape.

Check out this petition to have the "FCC to investigate Rush Limbaugh for biased and distorted news and for making intimidating statements":

That being said, the issue here is that

1. The lady wasnt a public figure. She is a "civilian" as we say in the political realm.

2. He said it over and over.

3. His show is THE show.

But yeah, generally we give other people a pass because we agree with them politically. Limbaugh we dont so we go after him. The issues above make it that much easier.

Bill Maher is not on Armed Forces Radio. He is on a subscription based service that you don't have to pay for if you don't want to. Maher's show also has a pre determined comedic context. Limbaugh is on free radio and the global, government controlled Arned Forces Network. He has hundreds of sponsors and reaches a huge audience. Limbaugh is widely considered the spokesperson for an entire political party. Maher isn't. Maher's audience is quite limited by comparison.

31. Two things
Thu Mar 8, 2012, 01:38 AM
Mar 2012

First, Limbaugh's show most definitely has a pre-determined comedic context. He spends a lot of his time trying to be funny.

Second, Limbaugh being considered the party spokesman is a de facto situation. The party leadership resents that status. If they had anything to say about it, they would probably prefer that not be the case. In fact, I would argue that Limbaugh being the voice of the Republican party is a confluence of numerous disparate desires that be the case - these come from 1) Limbaugh himself, 2) His most dedicated fans, 3) Democratic strategists, 4) The media.

It's ironic that the people left out here are the actual Republican Party leadership, who by all rights should be the voice of the party. The fact that they aren't is a testament to their lameness.
