It's not like many people think there's a good chance of reaching agreement on immigration reform. The parties are sharply divided on the issue, as they are on nearly all the significant issues of the day. (btw, the ones on which the parties agree, like the TPP, are the most dangerous and potentially devastating to the American people).

In such a climate, when it's nearly impossible to get anything done, it is only natural that politicians should act like politicians, i.e. hammer your opponents, and I think it's awesome that the President is pulling out this weapon to hammer the Republicans. This is a wedge issue for us. We are driving Hispanics away from the GOP with it. I hope it is a successful campaign. I have little or no hope of any legislation coming out of this spectacle, but I do think that focusing on it will hurt the Republican Party.
