WHITE HOUSE: Top Dem Senator's Shock Claim About GOP Leader Came From A 'Misunderstanding'

The White House said Thursday that it contributed to a "misunderstanding" that led the Senate's No. 2 Democrat to accuse a "House GOP leader" of telling President Barack Obama that he "cannot even stand to look at" him.

Durbin claimed in a weekend Facebook post that a House GOP leader told President Barack Obama that the leader "cannot even stand to look at" him during a recent negotiation over the government shutdown and raising the nation's debt ceiling.

Both the White House and House Republican leadership refuted the quote after it gained traction on Wednesday. On Thursday, a White House official said that there was a "miscommunication" when the White House provided a readout of the meeting to Senate Democrats.

“While the quote attributed to a Republican lawmaker in the House GOP meeting with the President is not accurate, there was a miscommunication when the White House read out that meeting to Senate Democrats, and we regret the misunderstanding," the White House official said in a statement.

never happened, this seems to put it to rest.
Sen. Durbin needs to retract his statement now that the WH has refuted this.

Now, given Jay Carney's demeanor today, it is pretty clear Pete Sessions was an ass that day. However, he probably did not say that, may be he did not look at Obama and did not say anything.

If Obama wanted the story to go away, the best way is to simply stop talking about it. Durbin never named names, so the story would just disappear.

Therefore, I conclude that Obama is talking about it PRECISELY to keep the story alive, basically putting the pukes on notice that they will be called out if they disrespect the president or the office.

"OK, Cantor, you get a free pass this time. But pull that again and we'll call you out."

The WH may have made a calculation that following the shutdown debacle, we are headed for a pendulum swing where the most strident, offensive, over-the-top people are out of favor. We know for certain that the Rove wing is looking to clamp down on Cruz and the other crazies that orbit him. So this actually could be a good strategy by the WH -- further isolating those who have made names for themselves by being arrogant assholes.
