http://www.wsbtv.com/news/news/local/woman-airlifted-hospital-after-being-attacked-dogs/nbXpq/Any time there is a dog attack, it always seems to be by pit bulls or "pit bull" type dogs. There are no photos of the dogs because they are dead.
A child was bitten in my neighborhood and it was described as a pit bull. I did not like the dog because it was a biter. But it was in no way a pit bull any more than my Chihuahua is.
A boy was attacked a few weeks ago in a school yard and he described them as Rottweilers. The dogs have yet to be found and I do not believe that they were Rotties. I have owned two Rottweilers and known many more and have never met a Rottweiler I didn't like.

That just has to be thrown in there to make the story more juicy I suppose.

(19,926 posts)And whoever decided the dogs were "'pit bull' types" was guessing too.

(56,177 posts)Yet they didn't catch them until after they attacked the woman? Sounds like they were reported before and nothing was donw...and how does a BLIND dog run away? WHo would NOT have a blind dog tied up when outside?

(8,159 posts)I'm guessing she dropped the leash when trying to fight off two attacking dogs.

(56,177 posts)Doesn't look like a place where people would be raising dogs to fight...wonder how far they roamed.

(14,549 posts)ETA: 87% of fatal dog on human attacks are done by non-neutered male dogs. In blaming all dogs with "pit bull like" heads we have been looking at the wrong end of the dog.

(32,076 posts)pragmatically I will say that the majority of pits I see here in TX seem to be bred to be badass for badass owners.

(5,624 posts)event that they do attack they are capable of doing great harm. They get a bad rap.
as far as breeds go, Chihuahuas and Pomeranian and other "lap dogs" are more "vicious" but their little size and teeth aren't a threat. My grandma's Pomeranian bit me every day from the time I was 5 to the time I was 8 and I always just laughed at it.
And it is definitely the owner more than the breed of dog. My grandma has always been a horrible dog owner, her little lap dogs have always been biters.

Well I've met a Rottweiler I didn't like. I didn't like his owner either (but that's a different story).
Here's the story:

Maybe it is possible that when a boy says he was attacked by a Rottweiler...it really is a Rottweiler....Nah,, you don't believe that could ever happen.

(8,159 posts)She has a lovely boxer puppy, very sweet and well mannered.
She was telling many people cross the street when she walks her ( on a leash).
This little girl in no way looks like a pit but people are afraid of her just the same.
Makes me wonder if people would call her a pit type dog.
