Obama: Want a war? Say so

Last edited Tue Mar 6, 2012, 04:48 PM - Edit history (1)

President Obama fired back at his Republican challengers who have accused him of being soft on Iran, saying at a White House press conference that the standoff over the Iranian nuclear program is "not a game."

Suggesting that the criticism being lobbed at him is not anchored in substance, Obama accused his rivals -- without mentioning their names -- of being "casual" about starting a war.

"If some of these folks think it’s time to launch a war, they should say so," he said. "Everything else is just talk."

Here's more of his answer:

At this stage, it is my belief that we have a window of opportunity where this can still be resolved diplomatically … Now, what’s said on the campaign trail – those folks don’t have a lot of responsibilities. They’re not commander-in-chief. And when I see the casualness with which some of these folks talk about war, I’m reminded of the costs involved in war. I’m reminded that the decision that I have to make, in terms of sending our young men and women into battle, and the impact that has on their lives, the impact that has on our national security, the impact it has on our economy – this is not a game. There’s nothing casual about it. And when I see some of these folks who have a lot of bluster and a lot of big talk, but when you ask them specifically what they would do, it turns out they repeat the things that we’ve been doing over the last three years. It indicates to me that’s more about politics than actually trying to solve a difficult problem.

All the GOP chickenhawks have to do is put it up for a vote. They have a majority what's holding them back? Are Boehner and Cantor weak kneed and lilly livered? Where's their resolve?

Like the economy, health care, etc.

Just turn it back on them and make them clarify how they would do it differently and then point out their inaccuracies.

The incumbent usually plays up the "guy who has to make the hard decisions as CIC" line when running against these types. The expression we don't hear anymore is about "...ending at the waters edge". This sabre rattling has always been a problem all the way back to the cold war. I wouldn't mind he expressing that if the GOP isn't careful, THEY could START a war that Obama would have to fight. Iran doesn't neccesarily understand out political system. They could actually believe that Obama would start a war to get elected.

He said he would spend what 100,000,000 dollars just so Gingrich can bang the war drum during the campaign. Wasn't it fellows like Adelson that helped bring Hitler to power?

Overstepping.?

The pukes can count on Israel for two things, Threatening Iran to raise gas prices, and getting us into war.

If they start a war I say we only step in if they start to lose, let them fight it out first.

When it comes to foreign policy, Obama knows what he is doing.

Human rights --- not so much, but foreign policy, yes.
