(20,606 posts)1. I can't bring myself to watch it.
I am strongly against keeping these animals, as well as others like elephants, in captivity.
I'm sure that movie would break my heart.

(8,646 posts)4. It would.
It was really awful.
But what was worse was them having Jack Hanna on after doing PR for SeaWorld.

Outside that, check out Lolita: Slave to Entertainment
It's not okay, but we do it. It's entertaining. Fuck them, right?

(12,151 posts)6. Saw it in the theater. Pretty devastating
depiction of the history and practices of the captive Orca industry. It's riveting, bit it's maybe less cinematic and more like an extended exposé.
One big thread is about the history of Tillikum, the whale that most recently killed a Sea World trainer, as well as at least one, and likely two other people.
The rest is a (highly critical) history of the capture methods and the way Orcas are handled in captivity. Sea World in particular gets hammered for its practices and deceptions.
A little rough around the edges, technically, but powerful.
I highly recommend it.

(21,675 posts)8. Absolutely
Orcas are sentient beings which should never be in captivity. Free them now!

(309 posts)9. I oppose keeping sea mammals like whales and dolphins in captive circuses
I oppose it every bit as much as I oppose keeping elephants captive.
It's wrong.
