Tea Baggers and gun nutters supported by the NRA will never accept a diverse society. They believe in GOP one party rule and separation of the races. When one of our reps from Colorado had a conversation with legislators in Kansas it was clear that they supported civilians having any military weapon at their disposal for protection against a tyrannical government they would never accept.
The secession talk across the country is just that. There is a white supremacist religious zealot undercurrent that still believes that this is a Christian nation that needs to be run on Christian values. This white minority rule has the same underpinnings as the South African government.
Voter suppression, tiered voting, rigged elections, continuous recalls, voter ID, intimidation et al are all parts of the strategy to control elections and keep a minority in charge enough to shut down government they do not accept. Just the recent admission that voter ID and suppression is meant to stop Democrats, minorities and other voters who will not vote GOP from voting reveals who these people really are. The fundamentally believe in re segregation and separate but equal.
The iconic picture of the Confederate flag in front of the White House is who they are and what they want. The Colorado recall fights are about putting in RW Christian legislators who are pro gun. Colorado Springs now already has at least one religious extremist now in the legislator who will obstruct all Colorado government and sponsor Christian and conservative related bills.
In their hearts these groups have already declared civil war against democracy. And their desire is till to replace what we have with theocracy.
By denying these groups prayer in school, vouchers, creationism, 10 commandments in schools we are persecuting them because they are not getting their way. The want marriage of religion and government.
I realize that my premise my seem outrageous, but if you add up all the rhetoric and actions. The recent firings of GOP officials for making racist or divisive remarks is about covering up the real feelings and desires of the RNC.

(10,602 posts)That's too liberal for them.
What they want and has always been the birther goal is to have Obama declared ineligible and have everything he has done declared null and void.
Impeachment is a compromise in their feeble minds.

(602 posts)My point of view is hardcore. But here it is:
We have spent years and years trying to accommodate, finesse, work with, compromise with and otherwise manage this revolting and violent group of bigots. What have we gotten in return? Nothing but venom, threats, obstruction, cheated elections, government shutdowns and in general, very little to no progress whatsoever on the extremely pressing issues of the day.
These cretins will never change their ways. In the meantime, the world is burning down around us. We have extremely pressing -- LIFE AND DEATH -- issues piling up on the table in front of us. What is the Tea Party/Republican response? Evil grins, longing for end of time, deep satisfaction with how badly they are screwing "the country" (aka: libtards, Obama admin, everybody else they hate). Their goal is to DESTROY, to KILL, to bring about the end of times apocalypse for which they have prepped so long. They have piles of weapons and ammo that they are LONGING to use against "the enemy" (aka: libtards, Obama admin, everybody else they hate).
These folks are evil. They are THE ENEMY. They are killers lurking, waiting for their chance to strike, doing everything they can possibly do to agitate, to bring on the initial confrontation.
My point of view is this. We can't wait and try to hold these maniacs in check any longer, not while the world burns down around us while the Tea Party/Religious Whacko Republicans gleefully witness the destruction with loaded weapons just waiting for the right moment to strike.
It is time to declare war. It is time to take them out. We can delay, we can negotiate, we can try to accommodate. But in the end, we only give the world more time to burn with pressing unsolved life and death issues, which only strengthens THEIR cause.
It is time to cut bait. It will be painful now, extremely painful. But not as painful as it is going to be if we wait until tomorrow, or next month.
You can't soar with the eagles when you've got an evil monkey on your back. We as a nation cannot progress with this toxic weight of Tea Party religious whackoism dragging us into the gutter every day. It is time to ACT.
Thanks for enabling my rant.

(10,602 posts)These groups are so open about how they feel. In NE Colorado the Weld County commissioners and counties in the NE corner of the state are still screaming they want a 51st state.
The recallers are saying they are not being heard because they appose background checks, limited magazines and keeping guns away from rapists and wife abusers. They want NO restrictions of any kind. Yet how can we have a safe society with what they want. we already have had two serious shootings here in Colorado. But those events seems to embolden them even more.
Secessionist talk and federal nullification in the red states and blue states where the GOP controls is pretty disturbing. Then you have South Carolina trying to pass legislation that would make it illegal (probably a felony) to participate in the health care law. When you see other states attempting to make it illegal for federal authorities to enforce federal laws within a state that is even more dangerous.
The tragedy is that these groups have already severely damaged the country.

There are many more accounts available of this segment of gun nuts who believe that the Second Amendment gives them the right to decide when it is time to overthrow our government. Then there are gun nuts who do not belong to these groups but still amass arsenals of weapons for the coming "revolution."

(6,635 posts)"The Tea Parties, on the other hand, were well connected in several national factions and did in fact become a movement after their first big national demonstration in September 2009, as the Institute for Research & Education on Human Rights (IREHR) showed in its 2010 report, Tea Party Nationalism. And local militia groups in Georgia, Oklahoma and Southeast Michigan are close to the Tea Parties. When a Tea Party Day of Resistance was organized in February, IREHR counted gun rallies at 138 locations in thirty-eight states. A Public Religion Research Institute poll released that January found that 55 percent of Tea Party members supported the right to carry their guns into church.
During this period of right-wing revival, in the political space created by the Tea Parties and the militias, a tendency known as the Threepers emerged into public view on March 19, 2010, when one of its principal leaders, Alabamian Mike Vanderboegh, declared on his blog: To all modern Sons of Liberty: THIS is your time. Break their windows. Break them NOW.

The things you mention certainly get *talked* about a lot in bagger-nutter circles, as movements they've never impressed me by doing much of anything. They make great props for certain rich backers' actual agendas, but as activists they make fine couch potatoes.
