A top law firm has been branded sexist for sending its female employees a 163-point memo instructing them to stop giggling, to avoid showing their cleavage and to learn 'hard words'.
Clifford Chance circulated the memo, entitled 'Speaking Effectively', to its U.S.-based female lawyers, who have accused the firm of singling out women as unprofessional and absent minded.
The five-page document urges female lawyers to stop saying 'like', to 'lower your voice' when speaking, to 'act your age' and to 'practice hard words' ahead of presentations.
'Lose the quirky mannerisms that are so charming to those who do know you,' it suggests.
And in a section titled 'What not to wear', they are reminded to 'wear a suit, not your party outfit', choose 'understated jewellery, nothing jingly or clanky' and to avoid wearing black as it will make them look 'like a mortician'.
