I'm a CPS caseworker, and my wife works for the school board. Our bills are paid, and my wife and I are good to each other -- married 28 years. I look around at people who have less than I have, and I feel very fortunate. I wish everyone had a stable marriage, income, and housing.
Sometimes I feel like the richest man in town.

(31,464 posts)By this time tomorrow, I'M GONNA BE A GRANDFATHER! My son and DIL are giving us our first grandkid, a girl (she'd being induced tomorrow if the baby doesn't come today, that's why I can be so sure). Exciting times!
This is a big year for the Atmans. First the grandkid, then my wife turns 50 (been working out and looks hotter than ever), and then we celebrate our 30th anniversary, then Obama gets re-elected. Plenty to celebrate!
Congrats to you, and thanks for the good vibes. It's nice to read stuff like that on DU for a change! Peace, brother!

(4,558 posts)My wife has a terminal illness, but it's stable for now, and she's enjoying yoga, her cats, and non-stop organic cooking.
she's doing better than I would have guessed two years ago, and we try not to think about the road ahead. For now, things are good.

(31,464 posts)I'm glad your wife is able to do the stuff she loves and that you're able to remain upbeat in the face of adversity. 28 years is a long time, I'm sure she's very special to you. Enjoying the time now, today, is always the most important with the one you love. You sound like a really good man. I hope everything works out for both of you in the very best way possible. Peace.

(82,849 posts)See, the Toady Show this morning helpfully played Ms. Romney's quote "in context,"* so that she could declaim that she doesn't consider herself wealthy, that she measures wealth by her friendships and family. And apparently, those relationships are very lacking in her poor little rich girl life. Weep for Ann Romney and her abject poverty.
*One wonders if NBC, so concerned for "context" will ever get around to providing the context of the so-called Dean Scream (a raucous room full of campaign supporters) or Rev. Wright's "god damn America" comment (in which he was talking about the shameful fact and lasting legacy of our slave-holding past). I don't suggest holding your breath.

(51,907 posts)Mentioning that because money really can buy happiness, but only up to $70K--from there on more money doesn't mean more happiness. This tells us that basic economic security is available to most at that price. You have that, and can enjoy all the good things in your life mostly free from economy-related stresses.
