I think not.
More likely, it's a small niche population (say 5 -10 %) that advertisers love to have access to as long as it doesn't alienate a significant portion of the other 90 - 95 % of the public.
The propaganda technique of amplifying a small group to larger-than-life dimensions is all well and good - until it affects the bottom line.

(5,029 posts)I'm guessing he might have a couple million listeners out of a population of 300 million, so maybe 1%. If we can get him pulled from Armed Forces Radio, (and there have been several articles out this week about rape in the military and how prevalent it is) we can probably cut his listener base in half.
Then he's screwn.

(28,158 posts)What a weird statistic. I mean a 25% margin of error? That looks like someone just yanked numbers outta their butt to me.
Junkdrawer
(27,993 posts)No one would believe 50%, but I've seen a considerable effort to defend something like a 25% number for casual-to-dedicated dittoheads in the past.

(917 posts)... is 16 million, I believe. Even if you grant him that, then we're talking about 5% of the country.

(9,074 posts)don't ask what show. I wasn't paying close attention. Maybe Ed or maybe another broadcast but I thought "he has 12 million listeners?". Yikes.

(1,138 posts)Some companies would love to have only conservative buyers. This is not going to work. When people start to patronize products depending on political points of view the people with the most dough will win in the end. But then maybe Liberal buyers can compete. Maybe we will have conservative and liberal corporations. If you are Liberal go to this store. If conservative go to that store.

(33,599 posts)someone listening for 15 minutes to see what the blowhard is saying is a "listener". Also there is the daily vs weekly stats. where someone could be counted multiple times. I would say he never had the number of die hard listeners he claimed.

Although there is probably CONSIDERABLE overlap.

(3,469 posts)White males over 60 aren't exactly an advertiser's dream. They have some disposable income but they aren't big buyers. Pissing off women is an advertising nightmare.

(27,993 posts)But every time I say that, I'm told it's all strictly business and that the number of Right Wingers on the radio simply reflects the politics of the American Public. Never did believe that.

Companies sensitive to their public image don't want to be within 100 miles of the Bloated Sack after this and the social media are not speaking, they are screaming.
