[font color="navy" face="Verdana"]DU is my primary news portal and springboard. The many links I find here take me to what is important/interesting to see/read/investigate further.

DUers also have wide-ranging and varied opinions on every subject. While I prefer to avoid the confrontational and argumentative threads, I often find a differing point of view to consider that I might not have thought of on my own.

Besides that, you are overall just good people -- incredibly smart, insightful, kind, helpful, and often funny.

Here's to DU and DUers!

On edit: And how could I forget to include all the debunking and truth-telling DUers do -- setting the record straight and helping to highlight the most egregious lies that the media need to set right!

Oh, I've flirted with lots of blogs over the years, and even tried Daily Kos (ick), but there's just no place else on the intertubes where I feel at home. (I adamantly refuse to do facebook.)

DU has been my home page for almost as long as it's existed (I found my way here a few months after DU came into being).

After spending so many years here, I'm totally hooked on all the drama, the personalities, the people who come and go - it's endlessly fascinating. And since I don't have TV, DU is both my source of daily entertainment as well as my main news source.

It was definitely a lifeboat during the bush* years - now it's more of a habit, like brushing my teeth and sorting through my mail.

I've made several good friendships here (I won't list names because I don't want to inadvertantly leave someone out), and have come to know and admire several other DUers - like H2O Man, Plaid Adder, Arendt, and others - from whose wisdom and compassion I have learned so much.

DU is just simply the one place in cyberspace where I want to hang out. It's my Local - the place where I go after work to kick back and people watch - and maybe get into a debate once in awhile. For all the crap that goes on here, all the stuff that drives me nuts, all the posters that make me want to reach through my monitor and slap, all the garbage and flotsam and nonsense that gets posted, I can't imagine my life without DU.

I think I found this place from a cross-post on the Rude Pundit. It was quite a few years ago, in spite of any appearance to the contrary due to my low post-count ( I lost a bunch of posts during a pass-word renewal cycle. ).

Like Scarlet Woman, I know I shouldn't name favorite DUers because there are so many folks that I like...but I will name some anyway:

The Magistrate; Icy Mist; California Peggy; Scarlet Woman; Skittles; Aristus; Texan Witch; NJ Cher; DemoTex (if he is the one who posts the great pics from the fire lookout in Oregon); In-the-Wind; WillPitt; Skinner; SalmonChantedEvening!!!; and, well, all of you, really!

Tonight, I am missing RedStone. Sigh...I am so very sad that he is gone.

I am very grateful and glad to have a place to come, where I can read the often wise and incredibly funny comments about the issues of our times, and the daily outrages of the robber baron class and their paid lackeys.

We have many very intelligent, well-informed, well-educated, compassionate, LIBERAL and DEMOCRATIC/democratic people here. If you want an excellent discussion or information on almost anything (especially politics), come here.

That's why I'm still here after nine years. The people here also have the biggest hearts - I've seen posters giving money to complete strangers because of hardship. Where else on the internet do you see that on a REGULAR basis ?

Initially, the LGBT community here, but they were scattered to the winds a few years ago after it became pragmatic to go after our community.

I still read, especially the Science forum, but I often feel I'm rubbernecking. A kind of epistemical closure is encroaching, so it becomes a kind of staring in disbelief. "Healthcare.gov failed because it was just too awesome!" I mean, friggin seriously.

Now I use DU as a partisan bellwether. What's the hard, partisan line on an issue? I need only read GD. The old days of informative posts are in the past. Now it's pissing matches and witch hunts. Fun as hell to watch, witness the current dkf mass orgy, but I don't learn anything here anymore. Media sources are shunned based solely on confirmation bias.

The reality-based community of the Bush years is long gone. Behold the partisan circus. It's still amusing though, in its limited, self-important way.

It's really something to realize I've been part of a this group for 11 (almost) years.

I love a few of you here, and I appreciate support I have gotten over the years from a lot of people (the others? meh, I don't care).

I'm sort of here because I've never not been. It's not the same, but there are still glimmers of what used to be.

There's a lot of good Dems who I miss; who were either banned during purges for not walking in lockstep or left on their own in disgust. I really miss them.

Without the suport system of DU, my personality would rapidly collapse and I would have no identity. I tried it for a couple of days a year or so ago and after 36 hours I started babbling nonense and had to be rushed to hospital and placed in an oxygen tent. Luckily the guy in the next cubicle had a laptop.

most diverse places where interesting people from all walks of life gather and many have become friends.

It "feels" like a "convention of emotions" from a community of people who are comfortable here to express curiosity, frustrations, ideas, anger, sadness, sorrow, happiness, surprise, indignation, humility, panic, helping, sharing, giving, caring and everything else I left out.

I love the diversity, information and opinions.
I've learned so much here.

At least that's my experience here.

Due to an injury (and complications following that) I had become a shut-in for so many years before finding DU that when Will Pitt hosted a meet-up in Boston, I went. It was my first time to be around a group of people since 2001. Almost everyone was so warm I couldn't help falling in love with DU.

I keep coming back because some of you mean more to me than people I've known in real life.

DU has the best up to date NEWS.

When something happens I can always depend on DU to have the first story.
