I sent my daughter the money to get herself a bike for riding around the local area. It's 3 years later; she still doesn't have a bike.

There is something special in putting together a care package for your kid that money cannot match. I send care package all the time. They just mean more.

Even an old beat up one of those is going for $70 or more. This one's better, cheaper, and about the same size.

Not too long ago, I was at a local hardware mega store and had found 4-5 small items all by myself (which can be a challenge, at times) and was in the checkout lane. The young man was on the phone arranging a date for later that evening. He checked me out without saying one word to me. I stood there waiting for him to bag up my items, but he was more intrigued with what his prospective date had to say. I waited and waited until he saw that I wasn't going to be moving anytime soon, reached over and pulled off a plastic bag, handed it to me and continued his conversation. So, I guess they are now moving to self-bagging, as well?

Employees of this type surely realize they are most responsible for customer loss, as they are usually the only employees that affect your shopping experience. By turning off customers, they are also endangering their jobs.

Some of it is self-inflicted, but management needs to offer better training. And better staffing during any given shift. Pay sucks and turnover is high.

I was at a gas station vacuuming my car a while back and realized the hose was clogged. I walked into the store to point it out and the 20-something behind the counter said, "well, I'm not sure what you want me to do about it." An older gentleman and I looked at each other rather wide-eyed, chuckling. I stated in my "don't fuck with me" voice that I wanted my $2 back and walked out after her coworker jumped in and refunded my money. He was young, but not clueless.
