I know that Rush's radio show has charged as much as $12,000 for one radio commercial in the past. I think he runs about 12 network commercials per hour. So that is about $144,000 per hour or $432,000 per show.
If he's lost 2/3 of his network advertisers that is an amazing $285,000 per day Clear Channel has now lost. Yay!!

(31,706 posts)One...as in John Hogan. He's the one man who can suspend rushbo or cancel his show altogether or have it pulled from hundreds of radio stations at once. Another number is $140 million...that's the money to be paid to rushbo by Hogan and CC through 2014...they're not gonna eat that kind of money easily not to mention the financial damage it would do in finding a replacement and right wing listener and political backlash (and yes there will be).
Rushbo can be a loss leader for the network (not that they want it to be)...while advertisers have cancelled on his show, their money will be spent on other shows, so Clear Channel won't lose a lot other than the prestige. The fact Premiere has stood behind him and there's not a peep from Hogan and Clear Channel shows you that they're willing to lose some money in the hopes that the shitstorm will fade away and in a couple weeks it'll be business as usual.

(4,982 posts)I've not seen a whole lot of people who can stick with such a task for an extended period of time. In 48 hours, it's "old news" and everyone wants something new. It seems to be not worth enough people's effort to get rid of the walking sewer. To do that is going to take extended, concentrated effort and hard work.
I hope I'm wrong.

(129,671 posts)that he hasn't let up. As long as he and the rethugs stay on the anti-women tirades, this will continue. It's now approaching 168 hours...

(31,706 posts)Note that a lot of advertisers said they will be "suspending" rather than cancelling...a very telling sign. They've been down this road with rushbo and others before...the nature of the hate radio beast. Unfortunately most of the shitstorms lose steam the moment the corporate media finds a new bright shiny toy to obsess on and rushbo and his ilk go back to business as usual.
Personally, I'd like to see an "Occupy Clear Channel"...a constant protest at Clear Channel stations and their advertisers. As you say the persistance on this side of the sandbox is sorely lacking (why I've been cyincal of some of the OWS methods and results). Remember that we're dealing with very greedy people here who put the dollar over all and many share the same "ideology" as rushbo...thus just like with the shitstorm over Donovan McNabb and Michael J. Fox they firmly believe "this too shall pass". The only one who can really make this situation worse is rushbo by continuing to fan the flames here...but I suspect any day now he'll shut up...this issue will be in his black hole and he'll be on to the next round of lies and outrages...
As you say...I hope I'm wrong...
