This is even worse that the nighmare I had last night!!!!
"There's just not enough wine in the world, says Morgan Stanley, and the problem is only going to get worse.
The industry is experiencing an "undersupply of nearly 300 million cases" a year, according to a report from Morgan Stanley Research.
Australia-based analysts Tom Kierath and Crystal Wang say the shortage comes despite the fact that there are one million wine producers globally, making 2.8 billion cases each year. About half of that comes from Europe.
But that's not enough to keep up with worldwide demand".
Oh nooooooooooooooooo!

This is how you turn Liberals into survivalists: we'll be stockpiling wine in underground bunkers for the coming (dry) Apocalypse.

(5,141 posts)Okay, with the wine shortage maybe it won't be the happiest, but think of the singalongs we'll have!
Pinot...it's my favorite wine...but my dad doesn't live in Sonoma

(4,056 posts)We won't be short of wine, I promise! !
Yeah, and as for going up to see Dad every week--well, it's a hardship, but look at all he's done for me in my life. The least I can do is visit with him--inbetween biking thru the wineries and getting some tasting done!!

Seriously, I had the misery of living up in Sacramento for a while, and my only solace was my weekend trips to Sonoma and into San Francisco, and my hikes up Mt. Tam...

You can have the rest of the California output; I'll resort to something Italian for my everyday red consumption. Deal?
dorkzilla
(5,141 posts)Cant agree to the other stipulation though...I like OLD WORLD wines best. I drink Italian and French mostly, throw in a little Portugese and Spanish and I'm well happy!
But...i like you so...I'll happily share!

(5,141 posts)I grew up in a neighborhood full of Italian immigrants. They all made wine and sausage at home. The sausage was amazing, the wine...not so much. Unless you live in an area where you can grow your own grapes (wine grapes, not the jelly making kind I've got in my yard here in suburban NYC) you have to purchase the grapes from elsewhere. It doesn't make the greatest wine. My friend spends a fortune on grapes, and although he wins prizes locally for his efforts, they're only so-so.

(53,339 posts)Dad didn't drink whiskey, so I had to discover the wonders of Jameson on my own. My first introduction to Jameson was at the Buena Vista Cafe in San Francisco, when I had the Irish Coffee for which the place is justifiably world-famous. It stirred my Irish-American blood!

HA! I haven't taken a sip of wine since 1974....my first...and last....encounter with wine! Of course, the Mexican food dinner I had earlier that evening didn't help, and the four hours of dancing afterwards probably exacerbated the situation. I hurled and heaved for hours the next day. Never again.....and I have that memory to reinforce my abstention. The smell of wine turns my stomach.
