Key takeaways from yesterday's health care hearings on Capitol Hill
- Republicans just discovered that the ACA doesn't forbid private health insurers from eliminating scam-like, low-value health insurance policies that were written too recently to be "grandfathered in" and exempted from new regulations. As usual, they are outraged.
- Republicans just discovered that cabinet-level federal appointees get employer-sponsored health insurance and that the law doesn't allow them to transfer their employer contribution to the ACA exchange. More outrage.
- Republicans learned nothing from the roll-out of Medicare Part D and, so expected a perfectly flawless roll-out of the ACA website, even after they tried to sabotage its development by withholding funds and refusing to pass technical fixes to the law that would have made things easier. Extreme outrage.
- Apparently, the government (so far as Republicans know) has never before bought technology that didn't work right at first and cost more than expected. (So, I am guessing that most of what I have read about the F-35 and V-22 Osprey programs must have been made up by the Great Liberal Media Conspiracy.) Outrage bordering on a psychotic episode ensues.

And why are they so obsessed with federal government employees "being on Obamacare?" They are, unsurprisingly, missing the point of the ACA-based exchanges which is, of course, to help people who don't get insurance through their jobs or whom have previously been shut out of the insurance market either because of price, pre-existing conditions, etc. If Sebelius, et. al are happy with their employer-based provider insurance, why should they ditch it for the exchange? And in Sebelius' case, she couldn't even if she wanted to because she is Medicare-eligible.
and that if the Republicans had been successful in defunding Obamacare, there wouldn't even be a website to grumble about. But, of course, there also (still) wouldn't be opportunities for large numbers of people to obtain health insurance coverage. But, hey, freedom and all that...........
