Texas women turned away at abortion clinics after court ruling

Women seeking to terminate their pregnancies were turned away at clinics across Texas on Friday, providers said, after strict new regulations for physicians who perform abortions prompted a dozen facilities to stop offering them.

Facilities that continue to perform abortions were flooded with calls from women trying to find alternatives, clinic officials said.

"They're calling from all over - Fort Worth, West Texas, all over Dallas, Oklahoma, everywhere," said Betty Pettigrew, director at Routh Street Women's Clinic in downtown Dallas, which has offered abortion services since 1978.

Offices were inundated with calls after a federal appeals court ruled on Thursday that a provision of a new Texas law that requires all doctors performing abortions to have an agreement with a local hospital to admit patients could go into immediate effect.

The provision was part of a sweeping anti-abortion law, passed in July by the Republican-led Texas Legislature, that also requires abortion clinics to meet heightened building standards, bans abortion after 20 weeks and requires strict adherence to federal guidelines in prescribing the so-called abortion pill.

Janice Rodgers Brown is the Judge on the 5th circuit who overturned the lower court judge's decision blocking parts of the TX law. she's by NO means to only one. Not by a long shot.

A pox on the women too! What's wrong with 'em? If a man who hates women is a misogynist, what is a woman who hates women? Is she just the fundamentalist type who wants to force her religion on other women? Are they sadists?

I agree on the “Uncle” part.. Misogamy is never a simple issue. You sound like it should only be discussed on a
intellectual level.

I suggest you watch last nights episode of “Borgen"....Its highly intellectual, well written and raw with truth!

Women in this country are seeing 40 years of rights vanish before their eyes.

I am horrified by the consequences that this will bring to the women of Texas. I almost commented on the cartoon earlier, but could not think of a civil response. There is nothing humorous about this issue at all. It is tragic.

If I think about the consequences of a perforated uterus, I get a lump in my throat and truly have to struggle to not weep out loud.

I'm a guy, and I am just devastated by the attack on women's rights that has been going on in this country...

...it's devastating...

... to hurt people is a Republican stock in trade, yet they caterwaul about good faith regulations being too cruel to ... profits.

How they can keep anyone registered in a party that revels in passing laws they gleefully admit are not for their stated purpose, but rather to restrict and punish people whose very lives they disapprove of is beyond me.

They lose every one of these social issues centered on demonizing groups of people eventually. They'll lose this one too. The damage they will inflict, seemingly out of pure spite, in the meantime, is appalling.

25. Stockholm Syndrome?

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stockholm_syndrome

Stockholm syndrome, or capture–bonding, is a psychological phenomenon in which hostages express empathy and sympathy and have positive feelings toward their captors, sometimes to the point of defending them. These feelings are generally considered irrational in light of the danger or risk endured by the victims, who essentially mistake a lack of abuse from their captors for an act of kindness.[1][2] The FBI's Hostage Barricade Database System shows that roughly 27% of victims show evidence of Stockholm syndrome.[3]

I'd call it stockholm syndrome, as well, even if it's not a DSM VI category. It's an adaptive survival behavior of women living with armed men and alpha men.

I can't tell you how often I've heard gun owners talk about shooting "activist" judges. Women judges are keenly aware of their risks, even when no particular belief drives their judgments.

Through beating, raping, and gang raping young vulnerable women they turn their world upside down. The men may not understand the DSM VI of it, but they know how to make it work. Some abhorrent dog trainers know the mechanics of it as well. The only danger in this dynamic is letting the victim think they have any choice or way to revolt.

People will behave as they are taught to behave, the ones that don't probably will end up dead.
