Now, most of the time, when people hear me mouth off, it is abut the state I currently call home, Florida. However, I was born and raised in New Jersey (like half of Florida was anyway.) There were many times I would compare Florida to jersey, especially since Florida had a knack for making the news, all for very wrong reasons. I missed the fact NJ had public transport, and that, unlike Florida, they cherished enthic diversity. I was proud when NJ allowed Gay marriage before New York did, and thought that perhaps NJ could be a shining blue beacon.
Then along came CC, and he brought out all the demons. The Greed, the Proud Crudeness, the Loud yelling and slime-layered lying. He attacked public trnasportation, then education. Frankly, this fellow should never have gotten elected in a blue state, and he certainly should not be re-elected. Yes, he pissed some folks in Dixie off by accpeting money to rebuild, but that should not mean much, especially since we all kniow the Dixie tea party states will all bellow for help the next time a hurricane hits, bellow, not beg. And of course, CC had to prove his manhood by attacking the gay rights legislation many of his voters supported, because he had to look like a real man for the GOP weasels.
Simply put, If NJ elects CC, which of course, gives him a jumping point to run for President, then NJ needs to call itself what it is: a RED STATE! It's ok NJ, because if you turn red, we will turn Florida, and maybe even Texas, Blue.

(13,616 posts)after 9-11 a lot of what used to be New York's richer set moved across the Hudson. They were doing so already anyway for Jersey taxes, but 9-11 became an excuse to get out of the skyscrapers and into the office parks. It is sad because we, as Jersey, had some sense of self, some identity, some class, dare I say, before the state changed it's motto to "Live in Manhattan, sleep in Jersey." Then of course, came all those "new jersey" shows with people who were from New Yawk, cranking up the ethnic stereotypes.
Do not get me wrong, there are things I truly miss. I wish Florida would get over it's love of strip malls, and throw in some walkign areas, some community. But CC has "dumped" a lot of Red Toxic waste into the blue state, so much so it may never be "the garden state" again. It sickens me to watch Chuckie Todd and Joe Scab prepare to coronoate him for 2016.
Clinton vs. Christie 2016, UGH, two people whop made a living by gutting the left while singing the suburban center to sleep, with tunes such as "You never really liked Union people anyway."

(11,175 posts)Montana and Wyoming were and are red states, despite having elected Democrats (Schweitzer and Freudenthal) to be Governor.
The point is that the popularity of one individual doesn't change the state's fundamental political character.
If Christie or Schweitzer is on a national ticket in 2016 (which I don't expect), he could make his state competitive. Otherwise, New Jersey will go for the Democrat, Montana will go for the Republican, and neither state will be considered by the pundits and campaign strategists to be in play.
