For the last two years or so, a group of West Auckland teen boys calling themselves the "Roast Busters" have gotten their jollies picking up sometimes-underage girls, feeding them alcohol, and then, once they're too intoxicated to fend off their advances, gang raping them.
Once the act has been completed, the boys posted videos of their exploits to social media in an attempt to name and shame the girls. The boys are privileged sons of law enforcement and an actor who costarred in The Matrix. The girls are too humiliated by their exposure to come forward. And police say they can't do a damn thing about it. In fact, police knew about the group's active and disgusting Facebook page but say they weren't able to have the thing taken down. [bangs head repeatedly on wall]
The Roast Busters (a play on "Ghostbusters" because rapists have very timely, with-it senses of humor, I guess) have been operating known around Auckland for some time, but became more widely known in recent days, when local 3 News reporters began going after the boys hard. On Sunday, the station explained, in detail, what the boys had been up to, and revealed the identity of a few of the club members. One of them, Joseph Levall Parker, is the son of Anthony Ray Parker, who played Dozer on The Matrix, among other recognizable roles. Another is a cop's son (police officials deny this). And all of them are human garbage.
Just to spare you the depressing rapespiral I descended into while looking into this group, here are some choice quotes from the Roast Busters, taken from their now-defunct Facebook page and videos they'd posted to social media.
These comments will make you sick as will the rest of the article:

Egad that's horrible. I hope New Zealand has some avenues for redress now that the media has taken up the cause.

(19,926 posts)but I'm getting quite tired of the "joke" comments in response to these things.
Just my feeling. I don't think it helps at all and it's just tiring to have to read them. I wish we could just tackle the subject in a straightforward manner. It's not funny, even though I know you didn't mean it as a real joke. But it's still injecting a joke into a serious matter.

(3,220 posts)Sadly, it's not a joke at all. I probably should have explained it, but I hoped people would get the reference.

digusting. young girls drugged with alcohol to unconscious. and he is talking about her taking any kind of action. pig. fuckin pig.
thanks for clarifying.

(19,926 posts)something like that as a "joke" in the heading and I think it's something people should refrain from doing.
That's why I cushioned my comment to you.
Thanks for your explanation. I think it's probably better to just say that someone said that rather than place it out there that way, but that's because of what I mentioned above.

(110,159 posts)daughter. your sister. grabbed by these rapists. the bottomfeeders of this world. scum. and know... this is who we are after. this is who we try to protect. this is the awareness we want people to have. this is why we yell so loud and so often in a world where known groups of rapists, rape our girls. put the videos up for boys and grown men to get off on. to humiliate the girls further.
shouldnt we be angry?
shouldnt we be outraged?
what normal, responsible human being would NOT be angry, outraged, disgusted.
this is what we are talking about.
am i being civil enough? knowing that people in position to take these bottom feeders down, do nothing. parents knowing their boys are doing this do nothing. a society that sits there and does nothing.

(39,961 posts)I always thought New Zealanders were better than that. I guess I'm wrong. In any case, these rapists went outside of the norm of any culture's behavior. Just atrocious, criminal and cruel behavior that they are *proud* of. I don't get the "being proud of being a nasty human being" element of it.

(2,178 posts)I have never met such a friendly bunch of people. Locals would invite me to their homes for Dinner, because they saw that I was a Stranger...the same thing happened to me in OZ.
I think it goes back to the early period when most of the population were sent by the British for whatever reason and Women were treated as Prostitutes. Old habits die hard.

(23,926 posts)I was 22; fresh out of the army, just released from Walter Reed AMC, all healed up, and not particularly pleasant to be around. I can fucking promise you that every one of these little shitstains that I could have put my hands on would have been curb-stomped, and then as they wallowed around in the gutter looking for the fragments of their teeth I would have kicked them in the nuts. And after that, I would have gotten nasty.
It wouldn't have been legal, but it sure as shit would have been satisfying.
As I said, I'm an old man now, and times have changed, but I can't help but hope that some Kiwi decides to take care of business if these little fucks skate due to family connections.

That tends to lead to men that are upstanding in their community, they help people, and don't hesitate to do the right thing. Many women have that trait, too, and I applaud them just the same. Women and men that do the right thing aren't different at all. We just care, to state it plainly.

(19,926 posts)I assume rape is illegal in New Zealand. If I'm wrong then I will be even more shocked.
So why is it that a Facebook page with videos depicting an illegal act - with a human victim, including rape, which of course is sexual - cannot be taken down by some sort of order? What the fuck makes FB so untouchable?
Then in the physical world, why were the police not able to do anything? Surely they could identify the perps, that's the entire reason the boys posted the videos, for "bragging rights". So why can't they do something? The videos are evidence, does the victim have to come forth?
Lastly, who the fuck is raising these neanderthals? To me this is an example of the negative side of the internet. I think being "cool" on the internet has really changed kids' behavior for the worse and parents need to learn to talk to their kids about how real these things are and that they are dealing with real people even though they don't see the impact around them in their physical lives, the victims are real, not just internet "actors".

(110,159 posts)One of the group's rapists reminiscing tenderly on the first time he and his friends gang raped an unconscious girl: "My first actual roast for the Roast Busters was bad, it was fun, I felt like the man. I thought this is going to go big, everyone is going to know about the Roast Busters."
When asked to name a saying he uses often, Hales responded, ''Go ahead, Call the cops, They can't un-rape you.''
More Hales: "It's not rape,. I had sex with one girl who is 13 when i was 16.. She wanted it and thats all that matters"
A Roast Buster in an online video: "We take what we do seriously, some of you think this is a joke, it's not. You try and get with the amount of girls we do. This is hard, it's a job, we don't do this shit for pleasure."
A girl who is friendly with the rapists in the rape club: "They are good guys. They can make really dumb decisions but they are being teenagers."
A group called Roast Busters Appreciation Page: "Appreciating the roast busters, putting bitches in their place since ages ago. Outing the sluts giving them the treatment they deserve. Any sluts keen to get put on the spit or ganged feel free to comment everyone loves a good slut."
Another girl who is friends with the boys: "People know that they are Roast Busters and they go hang out with them and do stuff [... ] but they're not rapists, they're cool dudes."
An ex girlfriend of one of the group members: "Of course it wasn't okay! I know that! But the girls that did it gave them consent and even went back for more! The girls always agreed to it."
to rape... is to feel like a man. take note of the girls that support the rapists.
