Always in a red state: 9-Year-Old Girl Stabs Grandmother Over TV

FLORENCE, S.C. (AP) — Florence police say a 9-year-old girl stabbed her grandmother after they argued about whether she could watch television.

Investigators said the girl stabbed her 64-year-old grandmother in the back with a kitchen knife as she read the newspaper around 2 a.m. Thursday. The woman called paramedics, while the girl called her mother.

Authorities say the grandmother was treated and released from the hospital, while the Department of Social Services placed the child in the custody of another relative.

Not what article says. You put those words in yourself as an attack on the South, didn't you?

The red state comment is absurd. Aside from that you have to wonder why they were arguing about tv at 2 am. Unless the kid waited until then to backstab her grandmother.

This kid needs a mental evaluation.

I bet similar instances of violence could be found in California if I bothered to look, but I've got lots better things to do than promote regional chauvinism, which sucks BTW.

I had this reaction: "Although certain things *are* more prevalent in red states: teen pregnancy, suicide, and divorce, just to give a few examples, this region-bashing serves no positive purpose. And this shit could surely happen in a blue state. And probably does." But I was the only one out of six to find this distasteful.

And I think my post here is on topic because the OP has made this part of the topic.

Stupid stereotypical comments are routinely deleted, but those who happen to live in one of these so-called 'red states' are expected to just 'grow a thicker skin' or 'suck it up.'

BTW, I don't even accept the simplistic term 'red state' or 'blue state'; there are liberal enclaves in Mississippi and wingnutty communities near the most Democratic of cities.

I've also got two words for those who turn up their noses at the unwashed masses outside 'liberal' California: ORANGE COUNTY!
For good measure: BAKERSFIELD! FRESNO! SOMEBODY STOP ME BEFORE I MENTION RONNIE RAYGUN! OOPS! too late.

a TOS violation for it to be hidden for meeting any of the other terms available for hiding justification...

Oh - and as someone who has done a lot of statistical research/work, state-based statistics are the fast food of statistical inquiry. I favored county-based statistical work, although some would disagree with my contention that this is a meaningful statistical unit.

It was amazing, though, with some of my charts to see how monochromatic as many as the first twenty slots often were. But it just makes me more sympathetic to all the good people I know live in these states and hopeful that the geographical diversity that does exist can gradually work positive change. I ultimately abandoned running red state-blue state divide statistics, as I found it pointlessly divisive.

The link doesn't tell much. The idea that you would associate this with a "red state" problem is problematic. Would it be appropriate for me to start posting crimes that take place in California and say "always in a blue state"? I can post plenty of those.

Given that the girl was with her grandmother at 2 AM, and that she was still awake to stab her grandmother at 2 AM is a pretty clear indicator that we're dealing with a dysfunctional family. If it turns out that the family is black, will you assume that it must be one of the republican black families, and that they are the only ones with this type of problem? Or will you reverse yourself and say "Always with the black families: 9-Year-Old Girl Stabs Grandmother Over TV"? I thought not.

Geez... what did that do for you? There are good people in red states and bad people in blue states and a 9 year old girl just did something that will impact her family for a long time. She's a KID. She's not a red state and you don't knw what happened. So knock it off.

I live in northern California and we recently had a situation where a teenager and her boyfriend MURDERED her mother . This kind of sick happening isn't something so called "red states" have a monopoly on. I'm just sayin'.

So you're convinced that 9 year old is a Republican? So she voted for McCain in 2008 when she was 5?
