Dick Cheney: Even Bigger Monster Than You ThoughtSalon
Youve probably heard that Dick Cheney agrees with Bill Clinton about letting people who are losing private insurance keep their old plans, as President Obama repeatedly seemed to promise they could. Thats not surprising: Cheney is a troll who maligns the president whenever he can, and piling on with Clinton is a special kind of fun. Yes, its outrageous that a man who has enjoyed many millions of dollars of taxpayer-funded medical care doesnt give a damn about the uninsured in our society, but thats Dick Cheney.
Still, I was a little startled to hear the former vice president express total indifference to questions about his heart donor in a revealing interview with Larry King (it airs Thursday night; heres a clip). Its a window into his utter entitlement and self-absorption, and he comes off as an even bigger monster than Id thought. Most people would at least feign interest in the donor; Cheney cant manage it.
When King asks if he knows the identity of the person whose heart keeps him alive, Cheney, who is promoting a book about his transplant experience, says no, and adds, it hadnt been a priority for me. Then he goes on:
When I came out from under the anesthetic after the transplant, I was euphoric. Id hadId been given the gift of additional lives, additional years of life. For the family of the donor, theyd just been [through] some terrible tragedy, theyd lost a family member. Cant tell why, obviously, when you dont know the details, but the way I think of it from a psychological standpoint is that its my new heart, not someone elses old heart. And I always thank the donor, generically thank donors for the gift that Ive been given, but I dont spend time wondering who had it, what theyd done, what kind of person.

I'd tell you to go fuck yourself
But that is much too kind
Because if you could perform that feat
You'd take pleasure in your behind
I'd like to say eat shit and die
But you deserve much more
You should suffer all the grief and pain
Of your misbegotten war
Though I can never make you feel
Or think, or understand
I'll take solace when you hear your name
Cursed throughout the land
From inside a lonely prison cell
Dark and bare and cold
Where every day you pay for your crimes
Till you're sick, heartbroken, and old
Then when you finally leave the Earth
You fucked over oh so well
If there is a God and afterlife
You're going straight to hell

(14,400 posts)tell recipients of vital organs sometimes. In donation there can be a depression following the transplantation and the recipient can obsess over the identity of the person who donated the organ.
Now, knowing Cheney, I kind of doubt he'd ever give a flying fuck about the person that gave him the heart. He's a psychotic fuck.
If a family member of mine was the donor of that heart I'd be pretty fucking depressed myself. Saying that, maybe it's better for that family to not know who has the heart.

I rarely watch that show anymore. It's the last of the so-called "news" shows to go. I don't know why I had the TV on. I was in the kitchen and heard a voice that sounded like the old bastard. And sure enough...
Gwen Ifill should be ASHAMED to be polluting OUR airwaves with that tripe.
More to the point...I posted something a while back, saying, somewhat facetiously, that David Icke was probably right, that creatures like Cheney are probably some reptilian life-form.
It got no response, probably because everyone thought it was too crazy for words. On the other hand, how does one explain such evil?

(38,328 posts)... I know if I had another person's heart I would be determined to make the best of it for everyone.
I would feel deeply in debt to the lost person, their family, and the society that makes such wonders possible. In no way would I feel I "earned" my survival. "MINE" would never occur to me.
Looking for some positive in this, maybe in future histories and historical dramas, Cheney will become the archetypal year 2000 Republican sociopath, the villain of thousands of dramatic artworks so long as humanity exists.

(He preferred Richard, but didn't mind Dick.)
When he was exposed as a vicious right-winger, he got tombstoned rather quickly.
But he had a heart transplant also.
He also continued to chain-smoke after the transplant, so he didn't last too long.
He died in disgrace, except among his cronies on the Fidonet.
In one instance he gleefully said another poster had "let his wife die."

(16,988 posts)Gwen Ifill, to her credit, repeatedly asked Cheney whether everyone ought to receive the care he received, and he asserted that everyone "in the system" has the same options. When Ifill pressed him again, he said that the country had an interest in the health of the president and vice president -- in other words, he passed right over whether anyone else deserved the same care.

(239 posts)even think in these terms? "I ....generically thank donors for the gift that Ive been given."
He should write Hallmark cards:
Sorry about your Generic Loss.
Glad I could afford the best medical care so I could pick up the pieces.
Years ago I worked for a wonderful liver transplant surgeon at a university. Sometimes I listened to the patients who couldn't afford the so expensive surgeries and years of aftercare meds due to---you guessed it---money. Patients' credit scores not up to par or the insurance company dropped them or were sick for so long, they were broke. How do you not become cynical when you witness the reality of the bottom line: the 'monied" got organs and the others died. If we had millions and millions more donors, what solves the issue that modern medicine offers miracles: if you can afford them.

(7,188 posts)Not sure why Cheney felt he had to say that, but just seems like a big f-u to the donor's family.
It wasn't someone's old heart - it was someone's pretty good heart that could no longer help the donor - so they gave you this precious perfectly good heart.

(15,139 posts)He was very Cheney-like, cold as ice. He, too, had no interest in knowing anything about the person who ultimately added 20 years to his life. You'd think the least an organ recipient could do would be to thank the donor and/or his family. Guess some people remain heartless even after the surgery.

(9,298 posts)But what about the audience the press gives him? How many producers imagine anyone has any interest at all in hearing about his heart issues? Much less seeing him on the teevee. Maybe it's like driving next to a car wreck - you can't help yourself, and so you look. The only thing that gives me any satisfaction regarding Cheney is that he knows most people hate him. He doesn't care, of course, but he knows. And he'll die knowing that.

He should shut his mouth and disappear forever. He has no room to comment on anything anyone else has done, and the media should consider this before they invite him on any more shows.

(441 posts)Late on December 24th, 2013, Darth Cheney was interrupted at his evening three-hour hate, by a knock at the door. It was a visit from the shade of Richard Milhous Nixon, who warned him that he will be visited by three ghosts. The following morning reveals the hideous fact that Cheney has stolen the truth from the ghost of the past, the intelligence from the ghost of the present, and the birthright from the ghost of the future.
In great glee, Cheney throws up the sash of his bedroom window and shouts out to a young boy celebrating Christmas morning, calling him a turkey and telling him to get off his lawn. At which point his new heart transplant spontaneously rejects his entire body, and a Merry Christmas is had by one and all.
And the moral of the story, as Tiny Tim is known to have sung, When strolling through the tulips if you want a clean soul, youd better tiptoe around the larger clumps of night soil.
