The fucker has finally been charged.

<snip>
A Detroit man has been charged with second-degree murder after he shot and killed an unarmed black woman who was seeking help on his porch following a car accident.
Theodore Wafer, 54, was also charged with manslaughter and felony firearm possession on Friday morning. Renisha McBride, 19, was shot in the face on the porch of Wafer's Dearborn Heights home on Saturday 2 November.
McBride's death sparked anger from her family, who allege race was a factor, and prompted calls for a thorough investigation from civil rights groups. McBride's family has compared her death to that of Trayvon Martin, who was shot and killed by George Zimmerman in Florida in February 2012.

(22,336 posts)Two weeks of freedom that most people don't get after they shoot innocent people in the head. Well, let's hope for justice from this point on.

(269,211 posts)he will have a hard time proving that she was trying to break-in. Prosecutors found no evidence that she was trying to break in.
Hope he pays dearly.

(55,445 posts)And I'm guessing before the weekend is over the media will get fed their NRA-approved smear stories and McBride will be (posthumously) transformed into the most dangerous, mentally unstable criminal in the city who rightly got what was coming to her by a freedom-loving patriot defending his house and home...
Yeah, I've seen this story play out too many times...I know for a fact that a couple of my favorite sockpuppets are stockpiling their freshly-made alt accounts as we speak...

(7,417 posts)And the police told us we had every right to have shot him.
I would only consider doing this if he was threatening us but he wasn't and we did not have a gun anyway.
He was a drunken neighbor (although we fidn't know him) who broke into the wrong identical condo.
Scary experience!

(36,356 posts)As I lay there on the bed listening to them, I heard a lady say "I think someone lives here!" and they left quietly. After a few minutes, I got up, dressed and walked downstairs. Nothing was amiss and based on what I heard the woman say, I figured they just got screwed up on directions.
I had guns in my bedroom closet but no ammo. Not once did I think about grabbing a gun and wishing I had ammo. To this day, I have the rifles but still no ammo and I think I'll keep it that way for the foreseeable future.

(15,396 posts)Sticking with 5-8 pound triggers help avoid discharging a SD pistol by mistake. Of course the best way is to keep the meat hook off the trigger until you're ready to fire.

(33,224 posts)2nd degree murder might be difficult to prove beyond a reasonable doubt. I think the guy will get convicted of the gun possession crimes but not the murder.
nomorenomore08
(13,324 posts)I don't see how that's not voluntary manslaughter at the very least.
lumberjack_jeff
(33,224 posts)I think negligent manslaughter would have been easier to prove.
nomorenomore08
(13,324 posts)But even if true, that seems like a rather difficult thing to prove. And I know our legal system is supposed to be based on "innocent until proven guilty," but members of the public (like you and me) aren't held to the same standard, nor should we be.
Not trying to move the goalposts here, mind you. Just expressing my own opinion of the case.

(33,224 posts)The question is whether he did it with intent. I doubt that the prosecutor can prove that he did, even if he may have.

(294 posts)He fully armed the gun and aimed it at her head. I don't buy bullshit about accidental discharge. He probably growled "Get off my lawn" before blasting her face wide open.
I always love when gun lovers try to trot out their prodigious gun knowledge.

(2,201 posts)But I have a real hard time believing that the gun just randomly happened to be pointed at the victim's face at the exact same time he "accidentally" pulled the trigger.
He probably won't be convicted of second-degree murder, but I think 'voluntary manslaughter' is very likely. I'm not sure what the whole 'felony firearm possession' charge is all about, but that's not going to help the guy out any. This isn't going to end well for him.
nomorenomore08
(13,324 posts)plus a firearm enhancement, this guy isn't a cop. And I hate to say it, but the gender of his victim may work against him as well.

The homeowner who shot and killed a 19-year-old woman Nov. 2 on his Dearborn Heights porch called 911 to report the shooting.
Theodore Wafer, 54, was arraigned on a second degree murder charge Friday for the shooting death of Renisha McBride. Wafer called 911 to say he had just shot her on his porch. Listen to the 911 Call:

not sure why they said this is a Detroit dude, but I didn't read the link. I always follow Detroit news despite being gone for 2 years (Detroiters seem to be more likely than other transports to do this imo).
anyhow, hope they lock his ass up. Enough is enough
