Blame Dems For "Do Nothing Congress". Claim that give them the majority and they will restore confidence in Congress.

(27,787 posts)The GOP knows that demographically, its time is running short.
They hope that if the government does nothing, Democrats who want a government that works, will get discouraged and stay home at election time. They want us to give up.
This is also why the GOP works hard to suppress the vote of people who are likely to vote Dem.
They can't win on ideas.
So their plan is to manipulate the vote such that their dwindling numbers are not eclipsed by a large turn out.

(27,787 posts)Its unlikely to win them National elections. But it does work at the state and local levels, particularly in off years.
They gerrymander districts, steal votes, suppress votes, and work to discourage voters.
The majority of Americans don't follow politics closely. And they are susceptible to the "both sides suck" argument. It takes energy to vote. A dispirited electorate stays home.
The GOP's angry base, votes.

And blaming a republican-dominated body for not getting stuff done? That's supposed to damage democrats?

(16,423 posts)The GOP would have to prevent any intermixing between these two messages and that won't work with the House because republicans are in charge there.
Damaging the government won't work. They have to take aim directly at democrats, either individualized (e.g. Barack Hussein Obama aka "the morning-star" or in general.

(27,787 posts)Most Americans don't follow politics close enough.
The media tells them that both sides are basically the same. You hear that same nonsense right here on DU.
Americans start to believe it.
Its not one side or the other, its the entire government. Who I vote for doesn't matter. So why should I vote?
The other messages from the GOP target their base ... keep them hating ... anger is an emotion that motivates action.
Anger the right, dispirit the left (the left wants a government that works). The one group is motivated to vote, the other is not.
