A few years back the Big DU was asked this question, I thought it was very revealing. Times have changed since then but I believe this poll could be equally revealing. I will let this soak a day or so then tally it up and post the results. Just one name only, House or Senate, who is your favorite?
Of the three I care the most for, Bernie Sanders has earned my vote in this poll.

Oh, I forgot to add Barbara Boxer to the end of that list.

(10,558 posts)Yes, I know it is difficult but for this poll I need the one you feel reflects you the most.

(16,113 posts)I'm less happy with Markey's "present" votes on Syria. If he's seen enough to vote "yes" he should. If he hasn't seen enough information yet, he should voted "no", and if new information changes his mind, he can change his vote if it comes up again. Voting "present" is a complete cop-out. We're talking about military intervention in the mid-East, not taking roll.
I'm not saying I don't like him, it's just that those votes are enough to put him a step below Warren.
Mass
(27,315 posts)and she had the same position as Markey on Syria. She just did not get to vote, so it was less obvious.
hughee99
(16,113 posts)I don't necessarily have an issue with Markey's "I haven't seen enough to convince me" position, but in my mind, that should mean a "no" vote. I'm not sure Warren would have voted "present", though it is possible.

(7,754 posts)a way of cutting throught b.s. and calling it like it is. I love Elizabeth Warren because she is calling out the money lender. I love Bernie Sander for way to many reasons to recount. I don't have a favorite.

(90,785 posts)... or something like that, which would be funny if it weren't such a reflection on the sad state of Congress as a whole.
I don't know what put "retirement" on people's minds, but the local Indy weekly did a small poll of "Who would you want to run for her seat when Lois retires?" I used to think Hannah-Beth Jackson was a shoo-in because she was such a firecracker, but Lois has hung in there through thick and thin (everything from Bush to more family losses), and others have risen. The current mayor's name was bandied about in the non-scientific poll.
All politics is local. Which brings to mind this question: Did you live here for awhile or just stop in for the politicking? Either way, sorry I missed you.

(146,329 posts)30 years of that in the same little house I bought in 1974. My wife and I moved to Minnesota to be near her aging parents after her father had a stroke. I doubt we'll ever return to CA, though. Her mom is 85 now, and the women in my wife's family all seem to live to 100.
Lois Capps is a very, very nice person and a good representative for the district. I met her and her late husband long, long ago, and we kept running into each other from time to time for one reason or another.

(90,785 posts)I moved out here from Hawai'i in 1979 -- a lifetime ago.
It's funny, but I have my usual rounds and they don't take me that way, over the mountains. A woman from North County once indignantly asked me why my site-visit to Guadalupe with the Human Services Commission was such a revelation -- why had I never been there before?! My ex-husband used to drive around to explore places, probably still does, but I've never been like that as I don't have a good sense of direction.
Anyway, you seem to be very settled where you are, and if Garrison Keillor is to be believed, Minnesota is filled with people like Lois.

(146,329 posts)drive south from San Luis Obispo county hundreds of times. I lived in Santa Barbara for about a year before enlisting in the USAF in 1965, but have spent very little time in Goleta, really. It's funny how we have our little patterns of behavior we seldom change. I do sometimes fly into the Santa Barbara airport, though, but not since they have built the new terminal. Maybe that's coming soon.
I had always loved the old terminal there, though. Even recently, it was more like flying used to be, walking out to the plane and boarding out in the open. Those days are gone now, I guess, with the new terminal. You still walk to the plane at the San Luis Obispo airport, though, so that's something.

Passing Over is the one to listen to, she was 21 back then and had only been playing for 4 years when she wrote and performed this tune. Just another one of you AMAZING musicians from the Red Roof Pub that I got to hang out with.

(7,887 posts)Love Al Franken, he's MY Congresscritter and am an Air America fan.
Love Elizabeth Warren and Bernie Sanders.
BUT John Conyers was so persistent during the really insane *ush years and he got so much down in the judicial record even though it didn't seem to matter at the time, it began to tip the balance. The man could not be silenced. He walked my signature to the White House about the Downing Street Memo and even though they would not let him in the door ... he was my hero at the time.
AND love Barbara Boxer too.
I'm just so glad we have SO many good ones to choose from, what a blessing.

(11,175 posts)One difference between him and Alan Grayson is that Nadler, resisting the post-9/11 hysteria, voted against the PATRIOT Act. OK, cheap shot, Grayson didn't vote against it because he wasn't in Congress then -- but that illustrates why I rank Nadler first. Both of those guys talk the talk and walk the walk, but Nadler's just been doing it longer (first elected in 1992, and fighting the good fight in the New York State Assembly before that).
Now, I will concede that his first campaign manager was the odious Dick Morris. As against that, it was in the 1960s, in Nadler's (successful) campaign for student government president at Stuyvesant High School. The teenage Morris had not yet revealed his true colors. I think Nadler can be forgiven that one.

(3,245 posts)Just kidding, it's Elizabeth Warren & Bernie Sanders.
I love both of your selections, loved one so much I voted for him in this poll and I would be lying if I told you I had anyone other than those two names on my fantasy ticket for 2016 but I have to ask you to choose just one. Yeah I know....maybe if I run a new poll we can choose two or three ok?

But as far as serious representation, I like Elizabeth Warren, even though she's a senator, not a congressperson.
chknltl
(10,558 posts)...and after looking it up: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Member_of_Congress I now see that I am a blithering idiot. Ok, so I have always thought of Congress as pertaining to both the House and the Senate, that a member of congress could come from either. So I looked and yep, I got that part ok but then upon further investigation I learn that this does NOT mean that a Congressperson can be from both. The word Congressman or Congressperson only refers to a member of the House of Representatives. This of course means an embarrassing edit to my OP! (Is it ok if I have you down for Senator Warren as your favorite member of Congress?)

I like that he's a geek -- follows boing boing, does actual DIY projects at the local makershed, entered the lyrics for "The Internet Is For Porn" into the congressional record. Also opposed to fracking, strong on human rights, gets the concept of privilege and tries hard to recognize when he is flashing his.
