Unexplained 'Phoenix Lights' explosion caught live on news broadcast.

A Phoenix Fox 10 reporter for was in the middle of a traffic report when the a bright white explosion of light suddenly appeared in the distance behind her.

The strange blast was caught on tape and aired live during Andrea Robinson report, illuminated the sky for a split second.

News station employees initially thought the impressive explosion may have been a transformer.

But when FOX 10 checked with local utility providers APS and Salt River Project, they were told no transformers had blown in the area.

It's been squashed to fit the column width. Look at the box with the "10" in it. It's supposed to be square.

thing to pull off but on the other hand on Sunday there is a screening of an award winning documentary about the 1997 UFO phenomena over Phoenix so this unexplained event seems oddly coincidental.

I loved watching the authorities stepping all over themselves trying to come up with explanations for what we saw. My personal favourite was the old standby "swamp gas", and going downhill from there.

I wish I had kept a copy of the paper the next day.

Plasma and charged particles from solar flares produce auroras. Maybe the bright explosion had to do with solar flares too.

There was a sound like a rocket going through the air, then a bright flash and a loud explosion. At first, I thought that an airplane had crashed, but the local news said it was a meteor explosion.
