MD, NY, and PA DUers

On Thursday, March 15, the Susquehanna River Basin Commission (SRBC) will be voting to issue more water withdrawal permits to frackers . The permits will allow the drilling companies to consume millions of gallons of Susquehanna River water for fracking and other drilling operations over and above the millions of gallons already being drawn off under permits previously issued. No Basin-wide impact study has been conducted by the SRBC!

A call-in campaign to the Commissioners and to the PA, NY and MD Governors is planned for early next week. Details on the SRBC vote, along with phone numbers for the call-in can be found at http://protectingourwaters.wordpress.com/

Additional info at: http://www.earthworksaction.org/files/publications/TopAsksSRBCBackgroundFINAL.pdf

If you’re concerned with this issue, with the welfare of the Susquehanna River and Chesapeake Bay, please try to make the calls next week and spread the word.

Thanks!

But last fall we were able to influence the Delaware River Basin Commission into shelving (at least temporarily) plans to open that river basin to drilling.

I know it's no secret how PA will vote next Thursday. But MD, NY & Army Corps of Engineers votes are still in play.

It just amazes me how the SRBC can vote on this without even having done a comprehensive impact study.

From Joe, re frack trucks hauling millions of gallons of clean water to frack wells: "Water trucks lined up at Midnight in Terry Township for water withdrawal from the Susquehanna. This is a 24/7 operation and as most are sleeping, our precious river is being usurped of it's life giving value, our water."
This is thievery, this is the COMMONWEALTH of PA, no one asked us if we'd sell our water. And like common thieves they commit robbery in the dead of night.
