It's a tight race this year to see who can open earliest, with the biggest sales, on Thanksgiving Day.
You can barely call it "Black Friday" anymore, because most of the biggest sales on TVs, toys, and tablets will be long over by Friday morning.
Earlier Thanksgiving Openings
Macy's, Target, JCPenney, Sears, and Kohl's are all opening at 8 p.m.
Walmart and Best Buy are opening 2 hours earlier at 6 p.m.

(53,475 posts)My daughter will get 1.5X plus "overnight" bonus for working Thanksgiving. The sign up sheet at her retail employer was filled within a couple hours. Folks want the money.

(8,492 posts)...I'd drag my son out on Thanksgiving day to pick up some little random thing just so I could thank the employees for being there for people that had nowhere else to be that day. I was one of those people on a couple of holidays. Having an open warm, store with bored employees was always welcome. Especially the ones that would hand out cookies and/or hot chocolate.
So, if you run out of milk or butter or just have to pick up some discounted piece of crap, don't forget to show your appreciation to the people that are working that day. Some may not have anyone at home and prefer being at work, others may really need that extra holiday pay to make the rent or keep the heat on. All of them deserve thanks.
